My heart goes out to the innocent children (and their teachers) who have been held captive by kidnappers in the last two weeks

I can't begin to imagine what their families and loved ones are passing through right now

But it's sad, truly sad, that we do not have a government that prioritises the lives of her citizens

So yeah, there's absolutely nothing left to celebrate on this year's Children's Day

Bring back our children first

Student XYZ: Miss Oty, I don't like my handwriting

Me: Really? What is wrong with it? (It's legible so I don't see anything wrong)

Student XYZ: I feel disappointed in myself because my handwriting is not fine 😔

Me: (I suspected this was coming from somewhere. This person has always been a very confident student) Who told you this?

Student XYZ: My mum. She says my handwriting is bad

Let's just say, I tried my best to reassure him because truthfully, I've seen the worst handwritings you could think of but I've never had a problem with his own.

But this made me remember my younger brother Kunam Isemin and what he suffered in our hands because of his terrible handwriting 😂😂😂

Everyone always had a thing or two to say about it

And his English Language teacher (God bless her kind heart) legit gave him a handwriting lesson to prepare him for WAEC

Cos even though he was very brilliant, his teachers wouldn't be the ones to mark his scripts and he needed to improve on his writing

Till today, I'll always credit the bulk of his excellent performance in WAEC to that dear woman

Because the truth remains that no single WAEC marker would have been able to read his work, and who knows, he just might have failed the entire exams.

So, let's just say that this post is a shout-out to Mrs Ekere of Redemption Academy

This act of kindness she showed my brother inspires me daily to be kind to my students in all ways possible
