Most times, what keeps us from going back to God isn't just the sin itself, but the guilt that follows.

We feel like what we've done is too terrible for God to forgive. We feel ashamed. We convince ourselves that we don't deserve forgiveness or that God no longer wants us. And so, instead of running back to Him, we stay away.

But look at the father in the parable of the prodigal son.

When his son returned,

He welcomed him with open arms.

That father's reaction is a picture of God's heart toward us.

So whenever you feel like you've done something so wrong that God might not want you back, remember the prodigal son's father. His response is exactly how God responds when a repentant child comes back home.
