Why play is not just play.
In this week’s Ask Allen, Allen talks about why play is such an important part of early childhood learning.
To adults, play can sometimes look simple. Blocks, pretend kitchens, painting, running outside, making up stories, building, climbing, sharing toys.
But for children, play is where so much learning happens.
Through play, children build confidence, language, problem solving skills, friendships, imagination, resilience, and emotional understanding. It is how they make sense of the world around them.
At Kiddywinkles, we believe play has real purpose. It is not just something children do between learning. It is learning.

Choosing the right early learning centre can feel overwhelming, especially when every centre looks welcoming on the surface.
In this Ask Allen video, Allen talks through what parents should really look for during a centre visit, from how teachers interact with children, to the feel of the room, the learning approach, and whether your child will truly be known and understood.
Because the right centre is not just a place where your child spends the day. It is a place that helps shape who they are becoming.

So good to visit the amazing Suzy Cato on the set of the brand-new You and Me show.
For so many Kiwi families, You and Me was part of our childhood. Hearing “It’s our time…” instantly brings back memories.
