"He waka eke noa β We are all in this canoe together."
There is something so special about watching friendships grow. Through play, laughter, and shared experiences, children learn how to care for one another, work together, and build meaningful connections. Whether they are creating imaginary worlds, taking turns, or helping a friend, these everyday moments help develop kindness, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.
At our centre, we love seeing tamariki learn alongside their friends. These friendships support the goals of Te WhΔriki, especially Mana Whenua (Belonging) and Mana Tangata (Contribution), as children discover that they are an important part of their community. Together, they learn that everyone has something unique to offer, and that learning is even more enjoyable when shared with friends. π

π£β¨ **Celebrating First Steps!** β¨π£
What an exciting milestone! We were delighted to witness some of our little ones taking their very first steps. With smiles, determination, and plenty of encouragement, children explored their environment with growing confidence as they practised balancing, standing, and walking independently. These special moments were filled with joy and pride as children discovered new ways to move and interact with the world around them.
Taking first steps is about much more than learning to walk. It supports the development of balance, coordination, strength, and body awareness, while also building confidence, resilience, and a sense of achievement. As children become more mobile, they gain greater independence and opportunities to explore, investigate, and engage with their surroundings. We love celebrating these important milestones and watching each child grow at their own pace. πππ£

π¦π Fine Motor Fun with Tongs! ππ¦
Our children had a fantastic time using tongs to pick up and sort colourful animal figures. This hands-on activity encouraged children to carefully squeeze, grasp, and transfer the animals, turning learning into a fun and engaging challenge. The bright colours and animal shapes sparked conversations, curiosity, and imaginative play as children explored and interacted with the materials.
Through this experience, children strengthened the small muscles in their hands and fingers, which are essential for developing skills needed for writing, drawing, and self-help tasks. They also practised hand-eye coordination, concentration, problem-solving, and perseverance as they worked to successfully pick up and move each animal. Sorting and identifying colours and animals further supported early mathematical thinking, language development, and cognitive skills. It was wonderful to see children learning through play while building confidence and independence! ππ¦β¨

Our children enjoyed creating beautiful autumn trees using a mixture of real leaves collected from nature and printed leaf cut-outs. As they carefully selected, explored, and glued the leaves onto their trees, they shared ideas, made creative choices, and expressed their own unique interpretations of the autumn season.
This experience supported a range of learning outcomes. Children strengthened their fine motor skills through picking up, positioning, and gluing the leaves. They developed creativity and self-expression as they designed their trees, while also building an understanding of the natural world by observing the colours, textures, and shapes of autumn leaves. Working alongside their peers encouraged communication, cooperation, and a sense of belonging as they shared materials and celebrated each other's creations.
What a wonderful way to explore nature, creativity, and learning through play! ππβ¨

Today our toddlers had so much fun on an animal scavenger hunt! As they searched for different animals, they practiced listening, naming, describing, and talking about what they found, helping to build their language and communication skills. Activities like this also encourage problem-solving, observation, memory, and teamwork while keeping learning playful and engaging. It was wonderful to see their excitement, curiosity, and confidence grow as they explored, discovered, and learned together!
