Sometimes the best learning happens in the quiet moments. Today, two tamariki chose to spend time together in the whāre, enjoying books and each other’s company. They showed an understanding of their own wellbeing by taking a breather, slowing down, and simply being present. A lovely example of self-awareness, friendship, and a love of reading. 📚💛

At Pukeko Room, we intentionally create opportunities for children to build independence, develop self-help skills, and learn alongside one another.
As children become more confident in everyday routines, they are also developing empathy, responsibility, and a sense of contribution within our learning community. These experiences support lifelong learning and help children see themselves as capable and valued members of the group.
Today in the Pukeko Room, our tamariki enjoyed celebrating Chinese Dragon Boat Festival through dragon dancing. 🐉
As they moved together, followed rhythms, and shared the experience with their friends, children explored cultural traditions while developing coordination, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
At Lollipops Albany, we value opportunities to celebrate the diverse cultures within our community and support tamariki to learn about the world around them.

Today was all about listening, watching, and following the teacher as we learnt some fun dance and exercise moves together. The tamariki enjoyed moving their bodies, building coordination, and developing their ability to follow instructions. There were lots of smiles, laughter, and energy as everyone joined in and gave the activities a go. What a fun and active day of learning! 😊
So proud of our beautiful tamariki, spreading lots of Aroha at Rosedale Retirement village every fortnight!!
Miharo tamariki ma!!
Thanks RNZ for sharing our story 😄
Exploring, testing, and discovering
At Pukeko, learning often begins with curiosity. Through hands-on sandpit play, tamariki explored their own ideas, developed problem-solving skills, and worked alongside friends to make sense of how things work.

Bubble play is always a favourite activity for our kiwi tamariki. They enjoyed chasing, catching, and popping the bubbles. Through this sensory experience, they develop their eye-hand coordination, gross motor skills and social interactions.

In the Pūkeko Room, our tamariki have been engaging in imaginative play by using play materials as food and creating pretend meals, supporting their language development, social skills, creativity, and early problem-solving through meaningful, shared play experiences.
