Market Day Showcases Student Enterprise

During lunchtime today, our commerce and business studies students showcased their creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial skills at Market Day.

A wide range of products were on offer, with students putting significant effort into designing, creating, and presenting their stalls. The area was buzzing with activity as students and staff explored the various products and supported our young entrepreneurs.

Congratulations to all students involved for their hard work, creativity, and professionalism. Market Day was a huge success and a wonderful example of learning in action, while also contributing to a lively and enjoyable school community event.

National Dance Competition Success

On Friday, 12 June, two Glenfield College dance teams travelled to Westlake Girls High School to compete in the National Dance Competition (NDC).

The NDC has long been a fun and supportive event that Glenfield College looks forward to each year, providing students with valuable opportunities to perform, compete, and gain experience on stage. This year, our two dance troupes – Bollywood and Hip Hop Crew – took to the stage and represented the college with pride.

A highlight of the evening was the outstanding achievement of the Hip Hop Crew, choreographed by former Glenfield College student Caryl. Competing against 19 talented hip hop teams, the crew placed eighth with Gold Platinum.

The competition was a memorable and rewarding experience for all of our dancers. It was also a fitting final performance for our Year 13 students, many of whom have been dedicated members of the dance programme for several years and were attending the competition for the last time as Glenfield College students.

29er National Championships

From 29 May to 1 June, Year 13 student Riley Hunter proudly represented Glenfield College at the 2026 New Zealand 29er National Championships, held at the Royal Akarana Yacht Club. Riley competed alongside his crew, Luke Shaw from Long Bay College, in the highly competitive 29er class, one of the world's premier youth skiff classes, renowned for its speed and the high level of teamwork, communication, and boat-handling skills it demands.

Reflecting on the event, Riley said:

“We went into the event with only one training session together in the boat, so we were still building coordination as a team. We finished 17th overall out of 19 boats. Across the three days, we raced in a wide range of conditions. Light winds on the first day tested our tactical decision-making and boat speed, while stronger winds on the following days challenged our sailing abilities and equipment. Unfortunately, we had to retire from a few races due to boat damage. Across 12 races, our best result was a 9th-place finish. Despite these challenges, it was a valuable learning experience for both of us and an amazing weekend.”
