Some of our kapa haka students recently participated in a vocal coaching workshop with Hinekoia Tomlinson from Waiata Mai Vocal Coaching. The workshop challenged and inspired our ākonga with their vocal confidence while deepening their understanding of how their voice works through a mātauranga Māori lens. Ngā mihi nui ki a Whaea Hinekoia for her expertise, guidance and supporting the growth of our ākonga.

Thank you to some of our senior Samoan group students who performed for our neighbouring Sancta Maria Catholic Primary and Baverstock Primary school’s last week, as part of Samoan Language Week.

Year 13 Geography travelled for an overnight trip to Rotorua last week, to conduct geographic research on how tourist operators are sustainable for the environment, people and the economy. They visited five different attractions that offered a wealth of rich learning. From learning about local Māori history to soaking in the relaxing geothermal bathing pools. The entire trip was filled with nothing but good vibes. “This is Geography”.

Congratulations to Sheng Mali trio, Ceron Zheng (Year 10), Tomaz Zheng (Year 13) and Liam Wu (Year 12) who competed in NZCT Chamber Music Contest last Friday. This is Sancta Maria College’s first time entering into the competition in seven years and the Judges’ comments were very complementary: ‘Beautiful stage craft – you presented yourselves so professionally’. Well done, Ceron, Tomas and Liam!
