Today our Penina o Tāmaki learners proudly represented Tāmaki Primary School at the Lauga Speech Competition.

Our Year 5 and 6 students demonstrated courage, confidence, and pride as they stood before an audience and delivered their speeches in gagana Sāmoa. Public speaking takes courage, and we are incredibly proud of the way they carried themselves and represented our kura.

Congratulations to all of our speakers. You have made our school proud.

Kia ora e te whānau, today, traffic control has closed vehicle entry to Tripoli Road shops. For pedestrians it is safe, which is outstanding. For vehicles there is a carpark on the corner section. Ngā mihi

Mālō e lelei ki he kāinga ʻo e Tāmaki Primary School,

Today, our Talamuka-‘a-Tonga learners visited Maungarei with Matua Thomas from Explore Tāmaki as part of our schoolwide Ngā Tapuwae o ngā Tūpuna learning in partnership with the Maunga Tūpuna Authority Love Your Maunga.

Our tamariki are exploring the journeys of our tūpuna across Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, the migration of peoples to Aotearoa, and the purākau of Ngāti Paoa. Through this learning, we are also making connections to the journeys of our own ngaahi kui mo e ngaahi kui tangata, our grandparents, parents, and families who travelled across the Pacific to make their homes here in Tāmaki.

Ko e folau ʻa e kau tūpuna ko ʻetau talanoa foki. The voyages of our ancestors are also our story.

Mālō ʻaupito ki a Matua Thomas for sharing his knowledge and helping bring the stories of this special place to life for our learners.

This learning journey will continue and culminate in July when Talamuka-‘a-Tonga travels to Tonga for our Back to the Roots learning experience. There, our learners will walk in the footsteps of their ancestors, strengthen their connection to language, culture, and identity, and experience firsthand the places, stories, and heritage that have shaped who they are today.

Kia ora e te whānau

Tomorrow morning, we will be preparing an umu onsite as part of our Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa celebrations.

There may be some smoke in the area during the early hours of the morning as the cultural earth oven is prepared. We will be managing this carefully and safely.

Fa’afetai tele lava for your understanding and support as we celebrate Samoan language and culture at Tāmaki Primary School.
