D Dorian in the E Shape! 🎸
This pattern runs diatonically to the C major scale, meaning it uses the exact same notes but starts and resolves on D—the second degree of C major. Starting on the 10th fret of the 6th string, this is a great way to hear and visualise the unique Dorian sound while staying within the key of C.
Save this for your practice sessions and follow along as we work through all seven modes!

🎸 C Ionian Mode – E Shape 🎸
The C Ionian mode is simply the C major scale, and this E shape is one of the most useful patterns to connect across the fretboard. The main root note is on the 8th fret of the 6th string, making it a great position to build your fretboard knowledge, improve improvisation, and link your scale shapes together.
Take it slow, focus on the root notes, and enjoy the journey! 🎶
A Minor Pentatonic Pattern 5 🎸
This pattern starts on the 15th fret and contains the root note on the 17th fret of the 6th string. Learning all 5 pentatonic positions is a great way to connect the fretboard and unlock smoother solos across the neck.
Give this pattern a try and save it for your next practice session!
A Minor Pentatonic Pattern 4 🎸
The root note is on the 12th fret of the 5th string, but don’t forget you can start from the 12th fret of the 6th string too. Great for connecting your pentatonic patterns and navigating the fretboard with confidence.
A Minor Pentatonic Pattern 3 🎸
If you’re playing in the key of A minor, this pattern starts on the 10th fret and is a great way to connect the fretboard and expand your soloing vocabulary.
Take it slow, focus on clean notes, and have fun exploring the shape. Thanks for watching! 🤘
🎸 Minor Pentatonic Pattern 2
Working through Pattern 2 of the A minor pentatonic scale. In this example, the pattern starts on the 8th fret. The scale shape chart is above me to help you follow along.
Save this reel for your next practice session, and thanks for watching! 🤘
