🚨 ACC REPORTS GYM INJURIES NOW EXCEED RUGBY INJURIES! 🚨
Yep… you read that right.
According to reports on the news tonight, accidents and injuries in gyms have now overtaken rugby injuries in New Zealand.
How the hell did we get here? 🤔
Simple.
People are loading weight onto bodies that don’t yet have the mobility, stability, posture, awareness or movement competency to handle it.
And sadly, many trainers are taught little more than:
👉 “Grip here.”
👉 “Give me 10 reps.”
👉 “Two more sets.”
Meanwhile nobody is teaching:
✅ Joint alignment
✅ Core recruitment
✅ Breathing mechanics
✅ Neck and spinal positioning
✅ Active muscle engagement
✅ Postural correction
✅ Movement efficiency
The reality is…
EVERY movement comes from posture.
If your posture is poor, your movement is poor.
If your movement is poor, eventually your body sends you an invoice.
Pain.
Injury.
Frustration.
Lost progress.
I see it every day.
People don’t fail because they’re lazy.
They fail because nobody taught them how to move.
Personally, I’d love to be given a budget and sent around New Zealand to every gym, every trainer and every keen gym-goer to teach:

A practical programme covering movement, posture, breathing, stability and injury prevention before loading the body with weights.
Because prevention will always be cheaper than rehabilitation.
Many people don’t know this, but years ago I was told my future involved:
❌ A back brace
❌ Va**um
❌ Living with pain
❌ Giving up exercise
❌ Considering spinal surgery
That was the accepted pathway.
My response?
“Yeah… nah.”
I took the brace off.
Stopped accepting limitations.
Flew to Phoenix, Arizona and immersed myself in a rehabilitation clinic that was years ahead of its time.
That’s where my journey really began.
Learning how the body actually heals.
Learning posture.
Learning movement.
Learning that the human body is far more powerful than we’ve been taught.
Today I still believe the biggest gap in fitness isn’t motivation…
It’s education.
Move better.
Breathe better.
Align better.
Then load the body.
Not the other way around.
And maybe… just maybe…
We can stop turning gyms into ACC waiting rooms. 😏

Health & aesthetics are often two very different goals.
And you are not one thigh gap or hip dip or deadlift away from a happier life.
So be very careful about taking health & fitness advice from people whose only focus is on making you and your waist as small as possible and no concern for mobility and stability.
I have full hip replcement, ruptured shoulder repair surgery, no AC joint left left shoulder and a wonky misaligned left knee and zero pain or issues with mobility and stability at 65. The older I get, the more I appreciate wanting to have a strong and robust body that makes life FEEL easier. One that gives me the strength and confidence to do all the crazy s**t I want to do outside the gym.
F*ck being small, I want to take up as much space as possible. That way, if I’m going to live a long life, I can actually LIVE a strong life.
