As part of our Ready for School programme, our tamariki enjoyed making bracelets today. This engaging activity supported the development of fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration, and pattern recognition. The children showed creativity and perseverance as they carefully threaded beads and created their own unique designs, while also building confidence and independence in their learning.

Our tamariki had an exciting time creating and exploring volcanoes! They eagerly mixed ingredients, made predictions, and watched with amazement as their volcanoes erupted. This hands-on activity encouraged curiosity, problem-solving, and early scientific thinking, while providing plenty of fun and opportunities for learning through play.

Grace is a caring and creative teacher who loves inspiring our tamariki through art and hands-on learning experiences. She encourages children to express themselves, explore their imagination, and build confidence through creativity. Grace also enjoys spending time outdoors, where she supports tamariki to play, explore, and discover the world around them. Her warm and enthusiastic nature makes learning fun and engaging for all. 🌻

Our tamariki had so much fun exploring shaving foam today! This sensory experience encouraged creativity, curiosity, and hands-on learning as children squished, swirled, drew, and experimented with different textures. There were lots of smiles and laughter as they used their imaginations and engaged in messy play, while also developing their fine motor skills and sensory awareness.

Our tamariki had a wonderful time celebrating Jammies in June by coming to the centre in their cosy pyjamas. The day was filled with fun, laughter, and a sense of togetherness as we enjoyed special activities and shared stories with our friends. Thank you to our whānau for supporting this meaningful initiative and helping us raise awareness for those in need during the colder months.

Welcome to Sunflowers ECE, where we believe in creating a true home away from home for our tamariki. We understand that early childhood is a special time of growth, discovery, and learning, and we are committed to providing a nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued, and supported.

As a small centre, we pride ourselves on building strong, meaningful relationships with our tamariki and their whānau. Our intimate setting allows us to get to know each child as an individual, recognising their unique strengths, interests, and needs. We create opportunities for children to learn through play, exploration, and positive interactions, fostering confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

No day is ever the same at Sunflowers ECE. Each day brings new adventures, exciting discoveries, and opportunities for children to explore the world around them. Whether it's engaging in hands-on activities, spending time outdoors, sharing stories, creating art, or developing friendships, our tamariki are encouraged to follow their curiosity and learn at their own pace.

Our dedicated teaching team works alongside children and families to create a warm, inclusive, and respectful environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We celebrate diversity, embrace each child's cultural identity, and encourage kindness, respect, and collaboration in all that we do.

At Sunflowers ECE, we are more than just an early childhood centre—we are a community where children can thrive, families feel connected, and every child is supported to grow into a confident and capable learner. 🌻

Exploring insects in Early Childhood Education sparks natural curiosity and builds foundational skills in science, mathematics, and literacy. Hands-on bug exploration transforms outdoor spaces into active learning environments, fostering empathy, patience, and early environmental stewardship.
Our tamariki have been absolutely obsessed with bug hunting lately. We had a fun filled bug day, hunting for bugs, face painting bugs and coloring in bug pictures.

Bubble foam sensory play is a powerful, low-cost activity in early childhood education that builds nerve connections and sharpens motor skills. The lightweight, non-threatening texture of bubble foam helps tamariki (children) develop essential physical, cognitive, and emotional skills while keeping them deeply engaged.

Our tamariki had so much fun, exploring the bubble foam. They watched as the dishwahing liquid turned into the foam texture and got bigger. The bubble foam opened up a world of creativity and exploration for our tamariki. Encouraging them to come up with scenarios and different ways to use the foam.

Our Tamariki are loving taking care of our bunny Willow. They enjoy helping with ensuring she has all the right food, enough water and always showing her love. Willow loves when our tamariki go and sit by her cage, talk to her and see how her day is going. Having Willow helps our tamariki, when they need some time just to sit and reflect. You regularly will see one or two of our tamariki by her cage, telling her stories or just simply watching her eat.

School readiness in Early Childhood Education equips children with foundational skills—like emotional regulation, following instructions, and independence. These benefits ensure a smooth transition to primary school, build lifelong learning confidence, and prevent students from falling behind in early literacy and numeracy.

We tailor our readiness for school program, based on each child's individual skills. These tamariki are working ok following the lines, with their pens.
Learning how to draw lines straight, acts as a primary bridge to early literacy, strengthens essential motor and cognitive skills, and gives young children an accessible medium to communicate their thoughts and emotions.
We also looked at shapes , identifying them and then following the lines and learning how to draw them.
