What does the future of data look like in Aotearoa? NZSE students recently had the chance to hear directly from the people shaping it at Deloitte’s Perspectives in Data: Building Aotearoa’s Future with Databricks event.
The day featured lightning talks, panel discussions, and practical insights from Deloitte, Databricks, and TechWomen NZ, alongside personal stories from women working across the public and private sectors. For our business technologies and engineering learners, it was a valuable opportunity to hear honest perspectives about the realities of working in the industry and the skills employers are looking for.
During the audience Q&A, NZSE asked the panel what advice they would give tertiary graduates trying to get their foot in the door. The speakers explained that for graduates with limited work experience, employers often look closely at initiative shown through study, capstone projects, committees, and volunteer experience.
One standout takeaway was: “You can’t teach attitude, and if someone is willing to just give it a go, that is vital in this industry.”

Do you see yourself or your teacher in our Pink Shirt Day 2026 photos?
Staff and students across NZSE proudly stood together in pink last week to support the nationwide movement encouraging Aotearoa to speak up, stand together, and stop bullying.
NZSE believes in fostering a culture where everyone feels empowered, so when Pink Shirt Day rolls around, it serves as a valuable reminder of the role we play in making that a reality.

Supporting our rangatahi takes a community, and at NZSE College, that responsibility sits at the heart of everything we do.
Recently, our recruitment team welcomed youth workers from across West Auckland, including Lifeskills Training + Education, Kia Puāwai , The Fono, Unitec and more to visit our New Lynn campus.
NZSE course advisors provided insight into our programmes, gave a campus tour, and performed a scenario-based workshop. Together, we explored real-life situations our students face, focusing on how we can better support them and strengthen referral pathways to ensure no one falls through the cracks.
By building strong relationships with community organisations, NZSE ensures our learners are supported beyond academic services, with a focus on genuinely uplifting and supporting their wellbeing.
