Last Friday, we had a special visitor, Charlie's aunty Elaine, who is a nurse. She, along with Charlie's mum, spent some quality time with the children, introducing them to various aspects of nursing and healthcare. The children were thrilled to explore some of the equipment Elaine brought, including bandages, an ophthalmoscope, and a stethoscope. Through hands-on experiences, the children gained insight into the role of nurses in maintaining people's health.
This engaging visit sparked curiosity and fostered meaningful discussions about the importance of caring for others.

On Friday, our tamariki came together to celebrate Philippine Independence Day through music, learning, and shared cultural experiences.
The children enjoyed singing Tagalog (Filipino language) song and exploring interesting facts about the Philippines—its people, culture, and history. This supported their growing awareness of different cultures and helped build respect for diversity within our learning community.
Teachers also joined in the celebration by wearing traditional Filipino dress, helping to create a rich and authentic cultural environment for the children to experience and engage with.
It was a meaningful day of connection, where children could see, hear, and celebrate the traditions of the Philippines as part of our wider multicultural community.

💛 Caring Hearts in Action 💛
Our youngest little learner, just 4 months old, enjoyed some special time exploring and observing the busy world around him. What made the moment even more heartwarming was watching our older children naturally step into nurturing and caring roles.
They gently interacted with him, smiled, talked, and checked to make sure he was happy and comfortable. Through these meaningful interactions, children are developing empathy, kindness, responsibility, and an understanding of how to care for others.
Moments like these reflect the strong sense of belonging and whanaungatanga within our centre, where children learn from one another and build caring relationships across all ages.

While our Fantails group enjoyed their visit to the library yesterday, some of our older Kiwis had a wonderful time exploring the big outdoor area at the centre. 🌿☀️
The tamariki eagerly investigated different areas of the playground, developing their curiosity, confidence, and sense of adventure. They enjoyed climbing, balancing, and engaging in imaginative play with their friends.
Outdoor exploration provides valuable opportunities for children to strengthen their physical skills, build relationships, and learn through hands-on experiences.
What a fantastic morning filled with exploration, movement, and fun! 💚

Today our Fantail tamariki explored a colourful sensory art experience using shredded paper and paint! 🎨✨
The children enjoyed mixing and discovering different colours while feeling the unique texture of the shredded paper. This hands-on activity encouraged creativity, sensory exploration, and fine motor development as little hands squeezed, scrunched, and spread the paint through the paper.
Learning through play provides endless opportunities for exploration, self-expression, and fun!
🌈 What a colourful and exciting day of discovery!

🌺 Celebrating Samoan Language Week 🌺
This week, we celebrated Samoan Language Week through a variety of meaningful learning experiences that helped us learn more about Samoan culture, traditions, and language.
The children enjoyed creating an 'ato (traditional woven bag), exploring the art of weaving and the importance of this cultural craft. They also made beautiful ula (necklaces) using leaves, carefully writing the first letter of their names on each leaf, adding a personal touch to their creations.
A special highlight of the week was welcoming our wonderful parents, Muaina and Lisa, who joined us for a special mat time. They shared cultural artefacts and spoke about their significance, giving both children and teachers a deeper understanding of Samoan culture and traditions.
These experiences provided valuable opportunities for learning, connection, and appreciation of the rich cultural heritage of Samoa. We are grateful to Muaina and Lisa for sharing their knowledge and helping us celebrate the beauty of Samoan culture with our learning community.
Fa'afetai lava! 💙❤️🤍

🌈✨ Sensory Fun & Creative Learning Today! ✨🌈
The Fantails enjoyed a hands-on sensory and fine-motor activity using colourful pom-poms and a variety of exciting materials. Through sorting, picking up, and arranging the different textures and colours, the tamariki strengthened their finger muscles, developed hand–eye coordination, and practised early problem-solving skills.
This engaging experience also encouraged creativity, imaginative play, and positive social interactions as children shared ideas, worked alongside their peers, and explored at their own pace.

🌳🍂 Revisiting Our Nature Adventure 🍂🌳
A few days ago, our Moreporks enjoyed a wonderful visit to Blockhouse Bay Reserve, where they explored and observed the beautiful flora around them. The children were fascinated by the different colours, shapes, and sizes of the leaves they discovered during their nature walk.
Today, they brought those memories back to life through creative art. Using a variety of materials, the children designed their own trees, carefully adding colourful leaves and acorns inspired by what they had seen in nature.
This experience encouraged the children to recall and share their observations, express their creativity, and strengthen their connection with the natural world. Through art, they revisited their learning journey and celebrated the beauty of the changing seasons.

To kick off Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa (Samoan Language Week), our Fantail tamaiti enjoyed a fun and creative Siapo (Tapa Cloth) making experience! Each child began by drawing their own picture on a square of paper. They then carefully dipped it into lauti (tea), which dyed the paper a beautiful brown colour and gave it an aged, traditional look.
Once all of the squares are dry, we will bring them together to create one big collaborative Siapo, which we will display on our wall, showcasing each child's creativity and contribution.
This experience aligns with Te Whāriki, supporting children to develop an understanding of their own and others' cultures, languages, and identities. Through creative exploration and cultural learning, our tamaiti are strengthening their sense of belonging and appreciation for the diverse cultures that make up our community.
