Macleans College's Adventure Racing Hillary Challenge team recently competed in the national qualifying event in Rotorua, placing 16th in the Mixed Open category.
The students completed a demanding six-hour course featuring navigation, mountain biking and problem-solving challenges, covering more than 30 kilometres of rugged terrain. Their strong performance showcased resilience, teamwork and determination.

A successful day on the national stage saw Macleans College dancers earn a third place finish, two special awards, and two top five placings at the National Dance Challenge.
Award-winning teams included Prestige (third place Ballet), Sovereign (fifth place Lyrical), Valour (fifth place Contemporary), and Regal (Best Personality Award), while Karen and Lene Rekdal (Te Kanawa House) were recognised with a Student Choreography Award for their ballet piece.
Congratulations to all dancers and student leaders Karen and Lene Rekdal, Amber Thompson (Kupe), Poppy Jackson (Mansfield) and Amy Wang (Hillary).

A challenging trek to the summit of the Pinnacles recently saw Year 11 Macleans College Challenge students put their resilience and outdoor skills to the test.
Covering 23 kilometres in a single day, the expedition provided valuable opportunities for personal growth, teamwork and practical learning beyond the classroom.

Year 10 Macleans College students Andy Tian (Snell House), Ethan Liu (Snell), Hugo Tan (Batten) and Yixuan He (Snell) have earned an Honourable Mention in the 2026 International Mathematical Modeling Challenge (IM2C).
Their achievement saw them compete successfully against some of the world's strongest teams and become the youngest New Zealand team ever to reach the competition's international judging panel.
This outstanding result continues Macleans College's strong tradition of success in international mathematics competitions.

Six Macleans College students recently represented Tanzania and Iraq at the Rotary Model United Nations Assembly held at Rosmini College.
Through debate, negotiation and collaboration, they explored global issues while developing valuable communication, leadership and critical thinking skills. The experience provided a meaningful insight into international relations and the work of the United Nations.

Year 13 Macleans College student Archie Thompson (Batten House) continues to excel on the golf course, recently winning the North Harbour Open Men's Stroke Play Championship with a seven-under-par performance.
The victory earned his first World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points and selection for the Auckland Golf senior amateur provincial team.

After earning promotion to the Auckland Secondary Schools Premier League for the first time since 2009, the team took on the region's best and made their mark. Along the way, they became the first school in recent history to defeat Mount Albert Grammar School both home and away 🔥
The season ended with a strong sixth-place finish and Premier League status secured. A memorable year for a team that showed determination, skill and plenty of Macleans College spirit 💙

Macleans College history students recently travelled to Northland to explore some of New Zealand's most significant historic sites, including the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, Russell and the Ruapekapeka battle site.
The trip provided valuable first-hand learning experiences and supported students as they gathered evidence for their historical research and internal assessment work.

Year 13 Macleans College student Gordon Lo (Kupe House) has been selected to represent New Zealand at the 2026 International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in Vietnam.
His selection follows a rigorous national programme of examinations and training camps. Gordon joins a growing group of Macleans College students who will represent New Zealand at international Olympiad competitions this year.
