College Student Council - School of Business and Accountancy (CSC-SBA) Governor Lance Miguel Angeles outlined his legislative priority agenda for the first semester to the Holy Angel University Student Government (HAUSG) Senate on June 10.

The priority bills, developed in coordination with SBA Senator Alicia Mae Manalad, target structural gaps and academic anxiety to address key challenges faced by the HAU student body.

Foremost among the proposals is the Excuse Letter Bill, also known as the Standardization of Academic Abbreviation Framework (SAAF), which seeks to institutionalize excuse leaves by establishing a three-tiered classification system to eliminate academic ambiguity.

Under this framework, level one covers first-degree consanguinity bereavement and severe medical illness; level two addresses common health conditions; and level three includes official student representation in outside university competitions.

Angeles noted that a past tragic incident within the SBA community served as the primary motivation behind this bill.

โ€œThis bill is not just merely for compliance. We are very serious on pushing this through [because] we have a strong foundation that backs this bill up.โ€

The Governor has also mentioned that, while he does not expect the institutionalization of this bill to be immediate, he believes it is the first step toward its continued implementation by the next incoming student leaders.

The second proposal is the Community Advocacy Under Student-led Events (CAUSE) Bill, which was also Angelesโ€™ platform during HAUlalan 2026, and aims to mandate the integration of creative themes into college or university-led events.

โ€œWe are spending so much on our activities and we were given the budget [for] this type of activities, so why canโ€™t we utilize it even more? Exploit the budget in which we are hitting not just one activity, but we [are] hitting multiple birds with one stone.โ€

Angeles clarified that the bill does not force cash-strapped student organizations to fund large-scale outreach programs, but rather requires them to use existing budgets to educate the student body on nationwide issues creatively.

The final priority proposal is the Student Assistant Protection Bill, or the Institutionalization of the Student Assistant (SA) Welfare, Dignity, and Healthcare Framework, which safeguards the welfare, dignity, and health of student assistants in the university through the utilization of priority pre-enrollment privileges and regular wellness checks.

โ€œWe are simply giving the SAs the opportunity to have their schedule [...] na they are comfortable with ahead of time, para they can align it with their work schedules,โ€ he said. โ€œWe must treat them as if they are true employees.โ€

Moreover, he stated that the regular wellness checks for the student assistants involve coordination with the University Guidance Office and Clinic.

Angeles also said that, while no surveys have been conducted, the lived experiences of people they knew personally served as the basis for assessing the student assistantsโ€™ needs.

The Governor expresses confidence in the current lineup of the University Senate, stating that the SBA Senator is very โ€œhands-onโ€ in coordination with the CSC-SBA.

โ€œWe believe as well that the line-up of the senators that we have right now will surely give priority to this,โ€ Angeles said.

In light of the possibility that these bills may be rejected, Angeles shared the CSC-SBA's openness to organizing alternative council-led programs to address these issues.

Payapang natulog ang bughaw na langit,
Biglang nag-alburoto ang bulkang malupit.
Ang luntiang parang at bukid na rikit,
Naging sementeryo ng abo't pasakit.

Mga tahanang natabunan at lumubog,
Sa bagsik ng bulkan na sumabog.
Pikit matang tinanggap ng mamamayan,
At pagbangon ang tanging hinahangad.

Sa bayanihang marangal na naganap,
Bagong pag-asa'y unti-unting nahanap.
Sa dusaโ€™t hirap ay hindi nagpadaig,
Dahil Pilipinoโ€™y nagkakapit-bisig.

Mga karanasan at kaganapan,
Tunay na tumitimo kung pakinggan,
Tatag ng loob na ipinakita,
Hanggang ngayon ay ginugunita.

Ngunit natapos man ang sakunang hinarap,
Marami pa rin ang hirap na matanggap,
Ang pait na labis na naranasan,
Patuloy pa ring ginugunam-gunam.

Sa paglipas ng mahabang panahon,
Marami pa rin ang hirap umahon,
Ang bunganga ng bulkang nanalasa,
Isa nang tahimik na lawang mapayapa.

Raise the flag,
With pride and purpose,
Heart courageous,
Voices raised to the sky.

On the day, our nation stood its ground,
Freed from the shackles of oppression,
To promise a brighter dawn.

Freedom is neither a date,
Pressed between pages of textbooks,
Nor a relic for future generations to pass around.

It lives within the countless farmers toiling under the sun,
The laborers working dawn to dusk in crowded spaces,
And the students carrying dreams their families never had.

It is in every voice that breaks the silence,
In every hand that reaches towards the light,
In every step that refuses to kneel.

Despite every struggle,
Every trial,
Every storm.

We celebrate independence
Not because it is finished,
But because it reminds us
That our story is still unfolding.

We build.
We hope.
We believe.
That our country can become all it strives to be.

We are not a perfect nation.
We are people brave enough to fight.
We are people striving as one for a brighter tomorrow.
And perhaps, that is freedom.

Students of Holy Angel University (HAU) gathered for a silent protest in front of the San Francisco De Javier Nepomuceno (SFJ) Building today, June 11, after the administration rejected several proposed Pride Month activities and shut down further discussions with the HAU - University Student Council (HAU-USC).

Dressed in black and carrying placards, participants called for equality, recognition, and safe spaces for all members of the university, regardless of s*xual orientation, gender identity and expression, and s*x characteristics (SOGIESC).

University security personnel attempted to disperse the peaceful gathering and prevented members of student publications from documenting the protest.

In an interview, College Student Council - School of Business and Accountancy (CSC-SBA) Governor Lance Miguel Angeles shared that they had already anticipated the intervention and chose to disperse to keep the protest peaceful and in accordance with university protocols.

"Noong una, dalawa lang ang guards, then dumami na sila nang dumami. They first approached 'yung mga publication na binabawal silang mag-video at mag-take ng shots sa amin, at narinig namin na dini-disperse na kami at pinapaalis na kami, kaya we chose na umalis na nga before anything else would happen. We respect naman the university protocols sa mga mass gatherings, and we respect that we are at normal operations and bawal mag-ingay," Angeles said.

The governor also expressed surprise and disappointment over the administrationโ€™s decision, noting that the university had allowed similar initiatives in previous years.

"For the past two years, nakita naman natin na they had been accepting these kinds of activities. I'm surprised why this time hindi siya in-allow. We are looking for the rationale of the administration why they chose to obstruct these activities, given that the university presents itself as an inclusive institution," he said.

Furthermore, Angeles added that the decision contradicts the universityโ€™s image of inclusivity and marks a setback to years of progress. โ€œWe are in 2026, and we expect everyone to be included. Itโ€™s disappointing because we have been building this since 2023 or 2024. May progress na, then weโ€™re stepping backward again. Itโ€™s just sad to see this happeningโ€.

Among the proposals rejected by the administration were Mx. Holy Angel University 2026, the installation of Pride flags on campus flagpoles, rainbow-colored lighting for the Don Juan D. Nepomuceno (DJDN) Building, and the conversion of the Inclusivity Walk into a Pride Walk.

The gathering served as a call for solidarity with LGBTQIA+ students and continued dialogue within the HAU community.

Despite the grievances that prompted the protest, organizers maintained a peaceful stance and expressed hope that the university would eventually recognize their advocacy and the rights they continue to fight for.

Recognized School of Business and Accountancy (SBA) learner groups unanimously elected Trizha Opiana of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants and Auditors - United (JPIAA-U) as the new SBA Commission on Student Organizations (CSO) Commissioner for Academic Year 2026-2027 during elections held on May 20.

Opiana secured three votes in favor, none against, and none abstaining.

Following her election, she will strengthen communication among SBA learner groups, ensure alignment with university policies, and improve organizational support as key priorities for the coming academic year.

She identified communication gaps among student organizations as a key concern and said she plans to address them through monthly check-ins and meetings.

"May gap siguro sa communications, and I want to [...] tanggalin 'yung gaps," she said in an interview. "I would like to make them more comfortable about these things na mag-cocommunicate kami with each other instead of avoiding the problems."

Opiana also intends to strengthen policy compliance among learner groups rather than limiting her role to monitoring compliance.

โ€œI want to become a [guide], not necessarily na nag-momonitor lang, but to guide them sa kung ano pa pwede malaman about the university policies and constitution,โ€ she shared.

She also expressed her intention to advocate for additional spaces for other student organizations, such as the Management Society (ManSoc) and the Aviation Management Society (AvMan), noting that only JPIAA-U currently has a dedicated office.

Before assuming the position, Opiana served as the CSO Representative of JPIAA-U and held leadership positions in several university organizations, including the Holy Angel University (HAU) Scholars Volunteers for the Environment and the University Student Council's Department of Community Extension Services.

She said her previous involvement in student organizations prepared her for the possibility of taking commissionership and greater responsibilities within the SBA community.

Reflecting on the election results, she expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her by SBA organization leaders.

"Iโ€™m thankful na I was given that confidence and trust to serve the SBA Community,โ€ she said.

Opiana attributed her election to her consistent participation in meetings, involvement in organizational activities, and leadership experiences.

Opiana described her leadership style as democratic, pointing out that results are achieved not only through her own efforts but also through the collective effort and collaboration of those she works with.

In a message to the SBA community, she encouraged learner groups to continue working with unity and respect, and pledged to serve with compassion, empathy, conscience, integrity, accountability, and dedication.
