Garnering a total of 91 points, TBC emerged over- all champion outperforming other campus publications in the university in the 7th Intercollegiate Press Conference (ICPC) during the three-day competition held from April 13 to 15 at the BSU Library Student Lounge.
Organized by The Mountain Collegian, BSU's official student publication, campus journalists went head-to-head in a series of writing, drawing, and media events. The contests feature two categories- the group events where sections of the published school paper are evaluated and the individual events in English and in Filipino where writers compete and submit entries on the spot.
Anchored on the theme โResiliency Reframed: Fueling Narratives of Communities in Crisis,โ the conference highlighted the role of student journalists in shaping narratives amid economic and social crises.
In the group category, TBC earned second place in the Development Communication, Sports, and Opinion-Editorial pages; third place in the News page; and fifth place in the Feature page.
In the Individual category- English, first-place winners include Clarence L. Tog-aca (Column Writing), Mary Ann C. Dodon (Development Communication Writing), Jane Fe C. Benito (Copy Reading), Jazel Nuj A. Wallace (Poetry Writing), and Yesha M. Meris (Mobile Journalism).
Moreover, Ruuthe Gumpad placed second in Comic Strip Making while Mary Ann C. Dodon (Feature Writing), Rimmuel B. Fanasan (Editorial Writing & Photojournalism), Gelise E. Siadto (News Writing), and Jeric Bautista (Literary Graphic) ranked third.

BSUโs internationalization initiatives include curriculum enhancements, partnerships, including a 3โunit foreign language in many programs. It helps the university meet CHEDโdriven internationalization objectives, such as strengthening foreignโlanguage competence and crossโcultural understanding among graduates.
Language learning naturally involves absorbing elements of the target culture. While full immersion in the community offers the most effective path to meaningful proficiency, it's not always feasible. In such cases, supplementing traditional classroom strategies with cultural activitiesโlike singing native songs, learning dances, and cooking local delicaciesโcan greatly enhance retention and engagement.
This is why our class incorporated a song and a dance performance. The song, "Eres Tu," is an enduring love song, while the dance makes use of Latin-American Salsa steps, but the music used is the Spanish song"Vivir Mi Vida".// D. Alawas, CTE Faculty

CTE took part in a discussion on environmental initiatives and waste management policies within the university and the wider community during the open forum on sustainability at CTE Room 217 today, April 13, 2026.
Anchored on the theme โSegreGREAT: Shaping Future Educators for a Greener Tomorrow,โ pre-service teachers and faculty members participated in the forum through both face-to-face and online platforms.
Engr. Kevin P. Titiwa, a Pollution Control Officer of BSU, identified single-use plastics as a primary contributor to solid waste, which in turn intensifies the greenhouse effect. He outlined key strategies to address this issue, beginning with source reduction, followed by technological conversion, recycling, and, as a last resort, disposal in landfills.
Local ordinances on waste collection in La Trinidad, along with administrative policies at Benguet State University, were also discussed. These include the โNo Mommaโ policy and the recent ban on single-use plastics, which are both aimed at promoting a more sustainable campus environment.
During the forum, CTE students raised questions about whether responsible consumption or reduced production is more effective in managing waste. They also inquired about practical ways to ensure that recycled materials do not eventually become waste, as well as strategies to encourage student compliance with existing policies.
In response, Engr. Titiwa emphasized the importance of collective responsibility.
โBoth the community and BSU already have environmental mechanisms and policies in place. What is lacking is proper enforcement; these must be implemented consistently and effectively,โ he said.

In support of the University's commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship of natural resources, and consistent with existing University environmental, facilities management, and student discipline policies, this Memorandum hereby STRICTLY PROHIBITS the entry, use, and distribution of single-use plastics within BSU premises. This policy aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), which collectively emphasize waste reduction, climate mitigation, and the protection of ecosystems from plastic pollution.
This initiative is likewise grounded on existing national environmental laws and policies, including Republic Act No. 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000), which mandates waste avoidance and reduction at source; Republic Act No. 11898 (Extended Producer Responsibility Act of 2022), which promotes accountability across the plastic lifecycle; and other relevant environmental regulations enforced by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). As an academic institution and a catalyst for social and environmental transformation, the University recognizes its role in leading by example by adopting sustainable practices that minimize environmental impacts and promote environmental awareness among its academic community.
This order is issued to promote responsible consumption, reduce plastic pollution, and foster a culture of environmental stewardship within the University.

La Trinidad, Benguet โ March 13, 2026 โ The College of Teacher Education (CTE) capped the BSU Intramurals with multiple podium finishes in the Dancesport Competition held at the Closed Gymnasium, marking a strong finale to the week-long sports festival.
In the Standard Dances, Daryl John Suyam and Jyzrami Abansi obtained second place overall, by claiming second place in both Tango and Quickstep, and third place in Slow Waltz. The pair also took second place in the Grade C Standard Level Competition.
Meanwhile, in the Latin Dances, John Mark Dapiaoen and Maricris Baliosan earned second place in both Rumba and Jive, competing against 16 pairs.
Adding to CTEโs strong showing, Khurt Angel Layugan and Kristine Victorino are among the six finalists in the standard dances. In the Latin American category, Jenil Mercado and Irish Antonio reached the finals in Rumba.
Reflecting on their achievement, Suyam shared, โSa practice pa lang namin, hindi namin ma-perfect, pero noong nalaman naming nag-second place kami overall, grabe talaga yung saya namin.โ
"Maraming salamat po. CTE we did it!" Dapiaoen expressed, after commenting that he regards other competitors as their dance partners on the dance floor, not as enemies.
Victorino expressed her hope to support future representatives in their training.
โWin or lose, they are the champions of the College of Teacher Education. They show the spirit of who the teachers are soon in the future,โ said Roben Jaco, CTEโs sports coordinator.

The CTE--Blue Lions surged to 8th place from their 12th spot on Day 3, as the university intramurals reached its final day of competition.
The teamโs strongest reservoir of points came from the Minor Team Events, where they tallied 54 points. With the latest update on the online scoreboard, CTE now holds a total of 169 points.
Meanwhile, CTE Dean Dr. Divina M. Yango congratulated all athletes who represented the college in various events and encouraged students to maximize the learning opportunities the intramurals provide.
โContinue to support each otherโnot only the players competing, but all students in our college. This is a very hands-on learning encounter that you should maximize, because it will be part of your teaching career in the future,โ Dr. Yango said.
She also emphasized the value of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
โYou can expand your circle, gain more friends, and learn from one another. That is the essence of true sportsmanship. Beyond the competition, it is the learning you gain that matters most,โ she added.
This is a developing story.
