For the second year in a row, future educators from Xavier University โ€“ Ateneo de Cagayan brought stories, warmth, and interactive learning to the learners of Arrupe Educational Center's Night School Program โ€” proving that good teaching begins long before graduation.

"My journey started with a simple presentation during our ORSEM. Even back then, I had a strong feeling that I was meant for volunteering. However, getting started wasn't easy. My personal schedule constantly clashed with the Night School Program (NSP) hours, and for a while, it felt like it wouldn't work out. Eventually, things fell into place, and I was finally able to begin my service.

Now that I am part of the program, I realize it is much more than just a volunteer job. It is a place where I get to teach and learn at the same time. The theories I study in my own college courses finally make sense because I get to apply them in real life. Itโ€™s one thing to read about teaching, but itโ€™s another thing entirely to see it work in a real classroom.

The best part of this experience is the relationship Iโ€™ve built with the learners. They have become more than just my students; they feel like family. It is honestly a great feeling to be called "Maโ€™am Hestia", not just in school, but even when I run into them on the street.

That name reminds me of the responsibility I have toward them. It encourages me to keep improving myself and to keep learning so that I have more to share with our Night School ALS learners. This journey has shown me that teaching is a two-way street, and I am grateful for every lesson I got to share with them."
