🏛️⚖️ COURTESY VISIT FOR THE BALINGOAN TAMBAG LEGAL CARAVAN ⚖️🏛️
Just recently, Atty. Virgilio A. Galarrita, Jr., in his capacity as the appointed Point Person of the IBP Misamis Oriental Chapter’s Tambag Legal Caravan (TLC) for Balingoan, and likewise as one of the legal counsels of the Social Security System – Mindanao North Legal Department, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Atty. Candy A. Unabia, Mayor of the Municipality of Balingoan, Misamis Oriental, to finalize the date, coordination, and other preparations for the upcoming Tambag Legal Caravan scheduled on July 4, 2026.
Also present during the meeting was Atty. Steve Marc B. Lagapa, Municipal Administrator of Balingoan, Misamis Oriental, a fellow alumnus of the Xavier Ateneo School of Law, and a fraternal brother in the Fraternitas Scintilla Legis.
The Tambag Legal Caravan forms part of the continuing efforts of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Misamis Oriental Chapter under the leadership of IBP Misamis Oriental Chapter President Atty. Gregorio Miguel H. Pallugna to strengthen access to justice and bring legal aid and essential government services closer to local communities through partnerships with various government agencies and stakeholders.
The visit also became an opportunity for meaningful alumni engagement as Atty. Galarrita, in his capacity as President of the Xavier Ateneo Law Alumni Association, Inc. (XALAAI), discussed with Mayor Unabia and Atty. Lagapa — both fellow Xavier Ateneo School of Law alumni — several ongoing and upcoming XALAAI initiatives.
Among the initiatives highlighted were the XALAAI Juris Scholarship Program, the MAGIS Iggy Bank Initiative, and the Xavier Ateneo Juris Card Program, all aimed at strengthening alumni engagement while supporting deserving law students and future projects of the Association.
The MAGIS Iggy Bank Initiative continues to encourage alumni to save and donate even as little as ₱10 a day toward building a sustainable scholarship fund for future Xavier Ateneo School of Law students. More than a fundraising effort, the initiative reflects the Atenean values of generosity, solidarity, gratitude, and service — proving that small daily acts, when done collectively, can create meaningful opportunities for future generations of lawyers.
Likewise discussed was the continuing expansion of the Xavier Ateneo Juris Card Program, which seeks to strengthen alumni connections through partner establishments offering exclusive privileges and benefits to members of the Xavier Ateneo School of Law community.

🏛️💙 ATENEAN CONNECTIONS IN PUBLIC SERVICE 💙🏛️
What began as a casual conversation among fellow employees at the Northern Mindanao Division Office in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City eventually turned into a meaningful discussion on Atenean fellowship, alumni engagement, and service to the community.
XUAAAI Vice President Atty. Virgilio A. Galarrita, Jr., one of the legal counsel of the SSS Northern Mindanao Legal Department, recently had the opportunity to share a light moment and conversation with fellow Xavier Ateneo alumnus Simon Jude Q. Obut, current Branch Head of the SSS Cagayan de Oro Branch.
Mr. Obut is a proud graduate of the Xavier University College of Arts and Sciences, Class of 1992, and later earned his Master in Business Administration in 2013.
As their conversation naturally shifted toward their shared Atenean roots and alumni activities, Atty. Galarrita personally invited Mr. Obut to attend and support the Grand Alumni Homecoming spearheaded by the XUAAAI, scheduled on December 5, 2026 at SM Downtown Premier, Cagayan de Oro City.
The upcoming homecoming is envisioned as a grand gathering of the entire Xavier Ateneo community — bringing together alumni from Xavier Grade School, High School, College, Graduate School, and the different professional schools and programs of Xavier Ateneo.
Their discussion also touched on the MAGIS Iggy Bank Program — a meaningful initiative of the Xavier University Alumni Relations Office together with XUAAAI, which continues to gain support from the various alumni chapters and organizations under the umbrella of XUAAAI, including the (XALAAI), where Atty. Galarrita currently serves as President.
Inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola, affectionately called “Iggy” by many Ateneans, the MAGIS Iggy Bank Program encourages alumni, students, families, and friends of Xavier Ateneo to set aside even just ₱10 a day inside the Iggy Bank as a simple act of generosity and gratitude.
While the daily amount may seem small, these collective contributions help support scholarship and educational assistance programs for deserving students and future generations of Ateneans. More than a fundraising initiative, the program serves as a reminder that small acts, when done consistently and together as one community, can create meaningful opportunities and lasting impact.
Participants are likewise encouraged to bring their filled Iggy Banks during the Grand Alumni Homecoming on December 5, 2026 as a symbolic offering of solidarity, generosity, and continued support for the Atenean mission of forming men and women for others.
Also joining the casual discussion and alumni engagement were fellow Xavier Ateneo alumni and public servants serving at the SSS Cagayan de Oro Branch:
• Mary Julie B. Fernandez – Xavier University College of Arts and Sciences
• Ishiela Maureen B. Mejorada – Xavier University College of Arts and Sciences
• Odessa Wayne Beatriz T. Ybañez – School of Business and Management
• Melani C. Flores – School of Business and Management
The alumni present were likewise encouraged and invited to support the MAGIS Iggy Bank Program and to continue strengthening the spirit of Atenean solidarity, fellowship, and service through active alumni participation.
As a gesture of support and solidarity for the initiative, the alumni present were each given their own MAGIS Iggy Bank and later joined together for a group photo — symbolizing their shared commitment to support programs that help future generations of Ateneans.
Invitation was likewise extended to all alumni to coordinate with their respective alumni association officers in preparation for the first-ever Inter-Alumni Association Sportsfest to be held at the Xavier Ateneo Sports Centre on November 28, 2026, and to take part in what promises to be another meaningful and memorable gathering of the Atenean community.
Indeed, moments like these remind everyone that the Atenean bond continues long after graduation — not only during reunions and formal gatherings, but even in simple everyday conversations among alumni committed to public service and the Atenean ideal of being men and women for others.
