I have already heard of some parents refusing Vit K for their newborns. Please let us save your family from the heartbreak of watching your defenseless newborn bleed.
Vit K is an injection we give right there at the delivery room, minutes after your child is born. For my new (and new-again) parents, please don’t forget to check if this (along with Hep B, BCG injections) was given to your baby.
—
“A ProPublica piece highlights the importance of the vitamin K shot to prevent vitamin K deficiency bleeding in babies.
Infants need vitamin K to help blood clot and prevent potentially fatal bleeding, as newborns are not born with enough of the vitamin. Because vitamin K does not pass well through the placenta, doctors have given newborns a vitamin K injection for decades to help protect them.

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. If you support this, please don’t hesitate to share. Photo credits not mine.
Reposted from James Deakin
“Some things are worth uniting for.
And keeping drunk drivers off the road is a great place to start.
Join us and the Cheng family and supporters as we seek to amend RA 10586 so that no other family ever goes through what they, and countless others, have had to go through because of weak enforcement and loopholes in the law.
What the Kingston Cheng Amendments do:
• Mandatory 2-hour testing window — no more 18-hour delays that let evidence disappear
• Retrograde extrapolation — experts can calculate BAC at time of crash even if testing is delayed up to 6 hours
• Lower BAC thresholds — 0.02% for professional/novice drivers, 0.03% for private (international best practice)
• Enhanced penalties in vulnerable zones — reclusion perpetua for DUI deaths near schools, hospitals, residential areas
• Ignition interlock devices — mandatory for repeat offenders
• Implied consent — holding a license means you’ve consented to testing; refusal = presumption of guilt
For those who want to lend their valuable support and don’t have a shirt, please use or share the graphic with the following hashtags
This is how change happens. Not just with outrage, but with organized action and institutional support. We thank you in advance for yours.“

HEROES DON’T WAIT. THEY ACT.🦸♂️
Been getting a fair share of challenging neonatal cases and the usual preemies, so I made the trip to the Summer Capital to attend the Philippine Society of Newborn Medicine’s Annual Convention, NEONATAL HEROES.
Sharing here one learning that’s relatable (cos believe me when I tell you that you wouldn’t wish to be able to relate to other topics aka newborn emergencies🫣): Car Safety
𝙉𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙖𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙨 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧
💜Always use a REAR-facing car seat for newborns
💜The CENTER BACK seat is the safest position
💜Never place babies in the front seat, especially with airbags
💜Ensure a 30–45° recline to keep the airway open
💜Baby’s back and bottom should be flat against the seat
💜Harness straps must be snug (no slack)
💜Chest clip at armpit level
💜Use car seats for travel only—avoid prolonged use outside the car
💜Check expiration dates—car seats do expire!
Thank you to my patients who have been patient (no pun intended☺️) while I was unavailable. Your pedia is trying to learn more to able to help more tiny humans. Be back at the clinic tomorrow Feb 6! Schedule is here seriousmd.com/doc/shawijalac

⚠️NIPAH VIRUS as discussed by CDA Singapore
“The Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA)…advised those travelling to affected areas to maintain vigilance and adopt precautions such as avoiding direct contact with animals, especially bats and pigs, and bat roosting areas.
CDA also urged people to avoid food and drinks that could be potentially contaminated by bats, such as raw date palm sap, and fruit found on the ground.
Those travelling to affected areas were also advised to consume only fully cooked food and fruits that can be washed and peeled.”
‼️Since the NIPAH virus can be transmitted human-to-human via droplets and close contact, it is important to MASK UP, practice GOOD HAND HYGIENE and avoid contact with BODILY FLUIDS.
Stay safe!
