Chosen from over 1,700 applicants nationwide and among only 31 delegates, the two (2) Third Year Cadets represented the sole maritime institution in this yearโ€™s cohort. They had the opportunity to engage with fellow student leaders across the country in advancing shared advocacies for nation-building.

Their journey began with the Kickoff Ceremony on 2026 January 23โ€“25, and culminated in the Closing Activities on 2026 April 17โ€“19 both held at the Ayala Museum in Makati City. The program featured leadership laboratories, immersion experiences, cross-sector engagements, and capstone presentations anchored on service, impact, and collective progress.

Notably, the kickoff also featured Ms. Ma. Nieves Confesor, NTMA Chairperson, alongside other distinguished leaders who shared insights on systems thinking, leadership branding, mindfulness, negotiation, and adaptive leadership.

During the Culmination Dinner, AYLC delegates engaged with notable leaders such as Ms. Jessica Soho, one of the countryโ€™s most respected journalists, and Ms. Martha Sazon, a leader in digital finance and innovation. The event also featured the ATLAS Homecoming, bringing together AYLC alumni from the past two decades.

Beyond the program, E/Cdt Ogoy and D/Cdt Villalon have actively shared their AYLC learnings with their fellow NTMA cadets, translating insights on service, accountability, and collaboration into daily cadet life and leadership practice.

The two cadetsโ€™ AYLC journey affirms NTMAโ€™s direction toward transformative leadership, i.e., developing leaders who elevate others and shape systems for lasting impact.

Australia is supporting the Philippines to foster womenโ€™s leadership in the maritime sector.

In 2024, the NYK-TDG Maritime Academy made herโ€‘story by welcoming its first women cadets and female president. To help drive this transformation, the Academy joined the Philippine Business Coalition for Women Empowerment, a partner of Australiaโ€™s Investing In Women program.

On 2026 March 21, NTMA cadets and personnel joined a Bloodletting and CPR Training Activity, reinforcing the Academyโ€™s commitment to health, safety, and service.

The bloodletting, in partnership with Capitol Medical Center (CMC) and WellCare, gathered 102 donors from the NTMA community, highlighting the importance of volunteerism, giving back, and helping save lives.

Simultaneously, a hands-on CPR training with Transnational Medical and Diagnostic Center (TMDC) and Bell Kenz Pharma equipped participants with essential life-saving skillsโ€”practicing to the beat of โ€œStaying Alive.โ€

Cadets actively asked questions and engaged with the doctors present, who were pleasantly surprised to learn that many already had prior knowledge from earlier trainingโ€”making this session a valuable refresher that further strengthened their skills and confidence.

Through activities like these, NTMA continues to develop not only competent maritime professionals, but individuals ready to respond, care, and make a difference when it matters most.
