The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful windtore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

In times of great tragedy, it is natural to ask: Where is God? Where is He when the ground shakes, when homes collapse, when lives are lost, and when hearts are broken?

This passage reminds us that God is not found in the destruction itself. We do not encounter Him in overwhelming displays of power—the wind, the earthquake, or the fire. Rather, His presence is revealed in due time through a gentle whisper. When the earth beneath our feet becomes uncertain, faith becomes the anchor that reminds us that our lives are held by something greater than the forces of nature.

The tragedy is real. The grief is real. Yet His guidance remains present, often in ways we do not immediately see. And when we finally recognize it, it fills us with hope—the kind of hope that does not deny the devastation, but instead declares that devastation will not have the final word.

Let us bring hope to the victims of this tragic calamity through helping hands, genuine compassion, emotional support, and every act of kindness we can offer. For God's presence is often made visible through His people. Let us be their gentle whisper.

To the people of Mindanao: Though the ground has shaken beneath you, may your courage remain steadfast. Hold fast to hope, for even after the strongest tremors, healing, unity, and brighter days can rise again.
