𝗗𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗠, 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿 – A total of 35 participants attended the Community-Based Introduction and Awareness on Renewable Energy Technologies conducted under the Promoting Renewable Energy in the Community through Information Materials, Seminars, and Educational Training (PRECISE) Project on June 8, 2026, in Daram, Samar.

The activity aimed to increase community awareness of renewable energy technologies and their potential to address rising electricity costs and environmental concerns through sustainable energy solutions.

The program commenced with opening remarks from 𝗠𝗿. 𝗡𝗶𝗸𝗸𝗼 𝗔𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗣. 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀, followed by a series of informative presentations by the project resource speakers. 𝗠𝗿. 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝗖. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮 discussed the importance of renewable energy in everyday life and its role in sustainable development. 𝗠𝗿. 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗝. 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗼 presented the basic uses of solar power in households, emphasizing its potential to provide clean energy while reducing electricity costs. 𝗠𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘀 𝗟. 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘆 shared insights on how wind energy works and its practical applications, while 𝗠𝗿. 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗰 𝗟. 𝗔𝗹𝗰𝗼𝘀 discussed marine renewable energy and its potential contributions to sustainable energy development, particularly in coastal communities.

Through the seminar and educational training sessions, participants gained valuable knowledge about solar, wind, and marine renewable energy technologies and their practical applications within their communities.

The PRECISE Project continues to promote awareness and understanding of renewable energy as part of its commitment to fostering environmentally sustainable and energy-resilient communities in Samar.

𝗦𝗦𝗨 𝘂𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗔𝗜-𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺

The Center for Lifelong Learning (CeLL) of Samar State University in Catbalogan City, Samar has launched an artificial intelligence-powered platform aimed at advancing lifelong learning and strengthening community-based education.

The “AI for Lifelong Learning” system was introduced on April 10, 2026, at the university’s RIC–Audio Visual Center, marking a step toward integrating technology into research and extension services.

CeLL Director Dr. Marife Matic Mustacisa-Lacaba presented the project overview, outlining the system’s framework and its role in supporting responsive, AI-assisted learning initiatives.

The launch was followed by a hands-on training session led by system developer Mar June J. Gabon, who demonstrated the platform’s features and guided participants on its use.

Faculty researchers, extension workers and representatives from various university units took part in system simulations and evaluation activities. Participants described the platform as efficient, accessible and useful for monitoring projects, while also noting its potential as a paperless tool for research and extension work.

Several attendees recommended wider adoption of the system and expanded training to maximize its use across campuses.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Florabelle B. Patosa highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation in promoting lifelong learning.

University officials said the initiative forms part of a capstone project under the Development Academy of the Philippines, aimed at enhancing digital transformation in education and community development. (Mary Ann O. Babailan)

The Teacher Education Council honors three visionary Filipina leaders driving transformative change in higher education through their institutional advocacies and community impact. They are recognized for their outstanding contributions to innovative teacher training, research integration, and equitable access to education, embodying excellence in leadership and service through training, research, outreach, and distance learning for the youth, migrant workers, and rural communities in the Visayas, Bangsamoro, and beyond.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗮-𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗮 is the Director of Center for Lifelong Learning of Samar State University. She’s a 2024 FLORA Award recipient advocating sustainable rural development via science education research on ferns, sweet potato yields, and financial literacy for poorest communities. She is recognized for her innovations in rural teacher training and community development through her research and outreach initiatives.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮-𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗺𝗯𝘂𝗮𝘆 𝗡𝗮𝗴𝗮 is the Vice President for Academic Affairs of Mindanao State University (MSU) System, concurrent Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of MSU-Marawi, and former Dean of MSU College of Education. She leads evidence-driven reforms integrating research into post-conflict Marawi recovery, including the Education Master Plan and system-wide compliance for science facilities; champions pedagogical innovation, assessment, and peace education across MSU campuses.

𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗩. 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗼 is the Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) and former Director of the UPOU Office of Gender Concerns. Her leadership envisions a "Transformative University of the Future" as a learning, healthy, sustainable/resilient, and intrapreneurial institution; prioritizes underserved learners like OFWs and second-chancers through distance education.

The Center for Lifelong Learning (CeLL) conducted the Exp of the project “𝗔𝗜 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” on 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟭𝟭 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆.

The activity began with an Overview presentation presented by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗮-𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗮, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 and 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗲𝗟𝗟. She discussed the 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬, 𝘰𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴, and the 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴, particularly the importance of community participation and data-driven training development.

This was followed by the Presentation of the System and Try-out Comments Proper, led by 𝗠𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗝. 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗻, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺. He introduced the platform’s features, explained its current functions, and demonstrated how the system generates training designs based on validated community data.

During the activity, the experts provided comments, insights, and recommendations regarding the 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺’𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄, and 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. Their inputs will be used to refine and further improve the system as part of the ongoing development process.

The activity forms part of the 𝗔𝗹𝗽𝗵𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲, after which the system will proceed to the 𝘳𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 and 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 stage, marking another milestone in the project’s goal of delivering AI-supported and community-responsive lifelong learning programs.

The 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗿𝗴𝘆. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘂𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗮𝗻, 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺, 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿 successfully completed a four-day training program held from 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟯–𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, conducted under the Training Phase (Beta-First Community Implementation) of the research project “𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗔𝗜) 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.”

The project is led by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗮-𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗮, 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗖𝗲𝗟𝗟). The initiative also serves as part of her Capstone Project under the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), where she is one of the scholars from Samar State University.

The first day of the training focused on 𝘊𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘗𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨, and 𝘚𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘒𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨, facilitated by 𝗠𝘀. 𝗝𝘂𝘃𝘆𝗿𝗮 𝗢. 𝗣𝗲𝗰𝗼 and 𝗠𝘀. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗹 𝗠. 𝗠𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗷𝗲𝗻, who introduced practical approaches to managing food business costs and maintaining basic sales records.

On the second day, 𝗠𝘀. 𝗝𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗢. 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗮𝘀 discussed 𝘊𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘚𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴, 𝘒𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘚𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘱 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨, and 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘈𝘥𝘰𝘣𝘰, while 𝗠𝘀. 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗲 𝗔. 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝗱𝗮 led the session on 𝘍𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 and demonstrated the preparation of 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘥𝘰.

During the third day, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵 𝗔. 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗮𝘆 of 𝗗𝗧𝗜-𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿 discussed 𝘓𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨. After the session, participants placed the prepared dishes in food containers and sold them within the barangay as part of a simple community-based selling activity.

On the fourth and final day, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗮-𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗮 provided a recap of the key lessons from the previous sessions. Participants also evaluated the features of the 𝗔𝗜 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which supports the development of community-based training programs through AI-assisted analysis and design. The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates to the participants.

As part of the continuing training cycle, the Center for Lifelong Learning also conducted another data collection activity through interviews to gather feedback and additional information that will be used to guide the next training cycle following the recently concluded program.

Through this initiative, the project continues to demonstrate how AI-assisted learning and community participation can work together to support sustainable livelihood development and lifelong learning in local communities.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟑 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐬, 𝐏𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠

On 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, the third day of the Training Phase under the project “𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗔𝗜) 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗔 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻” focused on packaging and product market preparation for the 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘂𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗮𝗻, 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺, 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿.

The session featured 𝗠𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗵 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗮𝘆 from 𝗗𝗧𝗜-𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿, who discussed “𝘓𝘢𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘗𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨.” He explained the importance of proper labeling, required product information, and suitable packaging materials to improve product presentation and ensure consumer trust. The discussion emphasized how effective packaging contributes to 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺, and 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴.

As part of the practical activity, participants transferred the prepared 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘈𝘥𝘰𝘣𝘰 and 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘥𝘰 into food containers and sold them within the barangay. The focus of the activity was on proper packaging and gaining actual selling experience in the community. This allowed participants to apply their knowledge in costing, pricing, and portioning in a real-life setting.

Day 3 provided valuable exposure to market-based practices, strengthening the participants’ confidence and readiness to engage in small-scale food entrepreneurship.
