⚖️ OT Outside the Box: OT in the Juvenile Justice System
Occupational therapy goes beyond clinics and hospitals—and into spaces where hope, healing, and second chances are deeply needed. 💙

Meet Ms. Renee Camille Cahinde, OTRP, DipWD, an occupational therapist volunteering with Restart HOPE for Children in Conflict with the Law, Inc. Through its programs and services, the organization supports children in conflict with the law (CICLs) and children at risk, helping them build brighter and more compassionate futures. ✨

In the juvenile justice setting, OT focuses on empowering youth through meaningful occupations and life skills training such as goal-setting, social skills development, executive functioning activities, and prevocational training. Through compassionate and collaborative practice, OTs help these young individuals rediscover their worth, express themselves better, and continue dreaming despite difficult life experiences. 🌱

This is OT beyond the traditional setting.

This is OT creating impact, restoring dignity, and empowering lives. ⚖️🧩

Stepping into the world of lower extremity orthotics and prosthetics! 🦿✨

Last April 14, 2026, our third-year Occupational Therapy students had the opportunity to learn from Sir Marvin Renacia, an Orthotics and Prosthetics Technician and member of the Philippine Accessible Disability Services, Inc. Adaptive Sports Team for their OT 346: Orthotics and Prosthetics in Occupational Therapy laboratory class.

The students gained valuable hands-on insights into improving mobility, function, and participation for future clients from listening to his professional and personal experiences and by witnessing the fabrication of an ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) using thermoplastic material.

Thank you, Sir Marvin, for sharing your expertise and inspiring the next generation of occupational therapists!

🏅 OT Outside the Box: OT in Sports

Occupational therapy goes beyond clinics and hospitals, it also plays a vital role in the world of sports. From injury prevention and rehabilitation to improving endurance, motor control, and functional movement, OTs help athletes safely return to the activities they love while maximizing performance both on and off the field. 💪🏀🏐

OTs also support athletes’ psychological readiness and overall well-being, helping them build confidence, adapt routines, and regain independence after injury. Through a holistic and client-centered approach, occupational therapy empowers athletes to participate fully and perform at their best. ✨

In sports, every movement matters and OT helps make each one meaningful. 🏃‍♂️🔥

🌊 OT OUTSIDE THE BOX: Aquatic Therapy 💧🏊‍♀️

Occupational Therapy goes beyond the clinic, and in aquatic therapy, water becomes a therapeutic environment that supports participation, movement, regulation, confidence, and meaningful occupations. 🌊✨

For this feature, we highlight Ms. Lyka Martina P. Nolasco, OTRP, as she shares her journey in exploring Aquatherapy as an emerging practice setting in Occupational Therapy. From her lifelong love for water to discovering how aquatic environments can support clients therapeutically, her story reflects the importance of curiosity, initiative, and continuous learning in the profession. 💙

Ms. Nolasco also reminds aspiring OTs to never be afraid of exploring innovative and non-traditional settings:
“Allow your curiosity to push you to learn more, seek opportunities, and expand your skills as a therapist.” ✨

As future healthcare professionals, may we continue to explore meaningful, evidence-informed, and client-centered ways to help individuals participate more fully in the occupations that matter to them. 💛

We often imagine vacations as instantly relaxing, but for many people, slowing down can feel unfamiliar, especially after long periods of academic or work demands.

From an Occupational Therapy perspective, rest and leisure are not just breaks; they are essential occupations that support balance, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. How we prepare for and engage in rest matters just as much as how we perform in daily responsibilities.

This guide is a reminder that rest is a skill we can practice through awareness, intention, and self-compassion 🌱

📚 THIS OR THAT: Study and Productivity ⏰

Everyone has different ways of staying productive and managing academic demands. Some prefer working in silence, others focus better with background noise. Some recharge through breaks, while others push through tasks continuously.

Through an OT lens, this activity encourages reflection on how our habits, routines, energy levels, and environments affect not only productivity, but also balance and well-being 💛 Productivity is not about doing the most all the time, it’s about finding strategies and routines that work best for you in a healthy and sustainable way.

✨ As you go through each slide, react to the option that resonates with you most and take a moment to reflect on your own work habits and routines.
