Dear Parents,

Bullies don’t magically appear in classrooms. They are not born with cruelty in their veins. Most of the time, they are shaped, slowly, quietly, by what they see and hear at home. A child who grows up watching shouting instead of listening, insults instead of guidance, and fear instead of respect will carry those lessons outside the house. Because for a child, home is the first classroom, and parents are the first teachers.

When anger is normalized, when humiliation is used as discipline, when “because I said so” replaces healthy conversations, a child learns that power means control. Natututo silang ang lakas ay pananakot. They begin to believe that being feared is better than being understood. And when they step into school hallways, they simply repeat what was rehearsed in their living rooms.

Some children bully because they feel small inside. May mga batang lumaki na kulang sa yakap, kulang sa papuri, at sobra sa puna. So they look for someone smaller to dominate, someone weaker to silence. It becomes their coping mechanism. Panakip sa insecurity ang pananakot.

This does not excuse their behavior. It explains it. Accountability is still necessary. But if we truly want to stop bullying, we must look deeper than detention slips and suspension letters. We must ask what environment raised that behavior. Anong klaseng tahanan ang nagturo na okay lang manakit ng kapwa?

Kindness is also trained at home. Respect is modeled. Empathy is practiced daily. Kapag sa bahay pa lang tinuturuan na ang bata makinig, umunawa, at magpatawad, dala nila iyon sa paaralan.

If we want safer schools, we must build safer homes. Because before a child becomes a bully in school, they were first a child learning what love, and power look like.

𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗔𝗩𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗜

Ngayong araw inaalala ang anibersaryo ng kamatayan ng Italian diplomat, author, at philosopher na si Niccolò Machiavelli. Si Machiavelli ay isa sa mga tagapagtatag ng modern political theory. Nakilala siya para sa kaniyang political treatise na 'The Prince' na isinulat noong 1513 at nailimbag noong 1532. Madalas siyang ituring bilang 'father of modern political philosophy' at 'father of political science'.

Isinilang si Machiavelli sa Florence, Italy noong May 3, 1469. Iginugol niya ang malaking parte ng kaniyang buhay bilang senior official sa Florentine Republic. Bukod rito, sumulat din siya ng ilang komedya, carnival songs, at tula. Ang kaniyang posisyon bilang diplomat ang nagbigay sa kaniya ng oportunidad na makilala ang ilang personalidad gaya nina King Louis XII of France, Pope Julius II, Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, at Cesar Borgia, isang prinsipe ng Papal states. Si Borgia ang naging inspirasyon ni Machiavelli sa pagsulat ng 'The Prince' noong 1513.

Ang The Prince ay isinulat ni Machiavelli matapos ang kaniyang pagkakakulong dahil sa akusasyon ng conspiracy laban sa Medici family. Unang inilabas ang The Prince bilang polyeto noong 1513. Sa akdang ito, inilatag ni Machiavelli ang kaniyang mahusay na lider. Hindi na nakabalik pa sa politika si Machiavelli. Binawian siya ng buhay noong June 21, 1527.
