Today marks the commencement of the 𝗖𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 for 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. Over the next six weeks, these aspiring cadets will be tested and strengthened through a program designed to harness their potential, guided by the core values of discipline, excellence, and service. It is a transformational period that will shape their character, sharpen their skills, and prepare them to become the strong leaders of tomorrow. This experience serves as a vital stepping stone to becoming full-fledged cadets of the academy.

Closing this edition of with yet another inspiring cadet of MMMA!

Meet E/Cdt. Nelvin V. Alde, he began his journey at 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨 𝐏. 𝐓𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥, where he developed the determination, discipline, and passion to pursue a maritime career. Though his path before entering the academy was challenging, it served as meaningful preparation that strengthened his mindset and resilience. Today, he continues to strive for excellence, working hard to grow academically, physically, and professionally as a future marine officer.

During his time in the academy, he has embraced discipline as one of his strongest traits. Through demanding routines and training, he learned the importance of time management, teamwork, and perseverance. His achievements, including earning the Bronze Star in the Physical Fitness Test and becoming part of the Fleet of Operations Department, reflect his dedication, leadership, and ability to perform under pressure—further shaping him into a capable and responsible individual.

Driven by his dreams, family, and desire for a better future, E/Cdt. Alde remains focused on his goals. He hopes to make his loved ones proud, travel the world, and inspire others to follow the same path. His journey reminds aspiring cadets that success requires sacrifice, resilience, and belief in oneself—proving that discipline is truly the foundation of success.

At the MOL Magsaysay Maritime Academy, every aspiring cadet entering the Cadet Candidate Orientation Program (CCOP) is immediately introduced to one of the most defining aspects of maritime training—the 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐭. More than just a change in appearance, this act symbolizes the cadet’s transition from civilian life into a structured, disciplined, and professional maritime environment. It is one of the earliest and most visible steps in shaping the mindset required of future seafarers.

From the moment a cadet takes the chair, the experience serves as a powerful reminder that they are leaving behind personal comforts and individual preferences to embrace the standards of a globally competitive maritime institution. It marks the beginning of a journey where discipline, accountability, and professionalism are expected in every aspect of life.

The requirement for a standard haircut is deeply rooted in the 𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲’𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲, 𝐡𝐲𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐲, all of which are essential in preparing cadets for life at sea.
