Good day to all! Posted below is the 3rd 𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇 𝐎𝐅 𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐅𝐈𝐄𝐃 𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐒 to be subjected to the screening process under the Social Science Department for the 𝐁𝐀 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 Program. These are the individuals who have chosen BA History not as their priority program.

Applicants will undergo the interview process. The face-to-face screening will be on June 18, 2026 (Thursday), June 19, 2026 (Friday), and June 23, 2025 (Tuesday) at exactly 1:00 PM in the Social Science Office 2 at the ST (Science & Technology) Building.

Please observe the following guidelines:
1. Adherence to the University dress code policy is a must; thus, smart casual or semi-formal is the required attire.
2. Bring a copy of your class card or TOR, biodata or resume, and a long brown envelope.

4. Be present 30 mins. before the designated time. A maximum of 10 mins. is allotted per interview.
5. Interview questions will assess the applicant’s suitability in the program since it will revolve around topics on current events, Philippine and Southeast Asian History, and international affairs and diplomacy.
6. Non-appearance or non-compliance to the above-mentioned guidelines entails an automatic forfeiture of the opportunity to be included in the screening process.

The NORSU Social Science Department congratulates its chairperson, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐀. 𝐁𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐨, on his latest publication in the 𝑱𝒐𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 [Volumes 70-71], published by the Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

His article, “𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝: 𝐉𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐀𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐫,” examines several case studies of atrocities committed by the Kempeitai in Dumaguete during the Japanese occupation. The paper draws heavily from declassified materials at the National Archives and Records Administration 2 (NARA 2) in College Park, Maryland—particularly the Manila Reports from RG 331—and eyewitness accounts found in the Silliman War Diaries and RB Silliman War Papers. It was first presented at the PNHS Annual Conference at Silliman University in October 2023.

This is Dr. Bulado’s most recent contribution to the growing body of scholarship on the Japanese occupation of Negros Oriental—work that recovers stories many Dumagueteños have long forgotten, or perhaps chosen to forget.

The NORSU Social Science Department is proud to announce the schedule for the Senior Thesis Defense of its BA History pioneering batch of 2026. This is open to anyone interested in watching the presentations, although seating is limited.

We invite members of the academic community, students, and interested guests to witness the culmination of our students’ hard work and research. These are the topics that will be presented next week, from May 6–7, 2026.
