Arrival in South Korea | EPS workers under the G2G Hiring Program safely arrived in South Korea and were warmly welcomed by the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) Korea, led by Labor Attaché Rosemarie Duquez.

The welcoming support reflects the Department of Migrant Workers continued commitment to ensuring the welfare, protection, and smooth transition of Overseas Filipino Workers throughout their migration journey.

Good news could be coming for foreign workers in Korea .

The South Korean government is currently reviewing a proposal to improve the E-9 (EPS) visa system. One of the biggest changes being discussed is allowing workers to stay and work in Korea continuously for up to 9 years and 8 months without the need to leave the country in between contracts.

CURRENT SYSTEM
Right now, E-9 workers can stay for 4 years and 10 months per contract, and can renew once. However, there is a catch — workers are required to leave Korea for a period of time (usually at least 1 month) before coming back for the next term. This breaks continuity and creates uncertainty for many workers.

PROPOSED CHANGE
The government is considering removing this mandatory exit rule, allowing workers to:

✔ Stay continuously for nearly 10 years
✔ Avoid the stress and cost of leaving and re-entering Korea
✔ Maintain stable employment without interruption

Korea is facing labor shortages in industries like manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. By allowing longer continuous stays, companies can retain experienced foreign workers, and workers can have more stability in their jobs and lives.
