The FDA Philippines has issued a public warning regarding unregistered injectables following a recent NBI enforcement operation.

🟣 Strep Throat

➟ Strep throat is a bacterial throat infection, most commonly caused by Group A Streptococcus.

➟ It often causes sudden throat pain, fever, swollen tonsils, and tender neck glands.

➟ Unlike many viral sore throats, strep throat usually does not cause cough, runny nose, or hoarseness.

🟣 Common signs and symptoms

➟ Sudden sore throat
Throat pain often starts quickly and may be severe.

➟ Fever
A high temperature is common.

➟ Red swollen tonsils
The tonsils may look red, enlarged, and painful.

➟ White patches or pus on tonsils
Some people develop white patches or pus spots.

➟ Swollen neck glands
Lymph nodes in the neck may become tender or swollen.

➟ Painful swallowing
Swallowing food, water, or saliva may hurt.

➟ Headache or tummy pain
Children may also have headache, nausea, vomiting, or belly pain.

🟣 Management

➟ Get tested if suspected
A throat swab or rapid strep test can help confirm the diagnosis.

➟ Antibiotics if prescribed
Strep throat usually needs antibiotics to reduce complications and spread.

➟ Finish the full course
Complete antibiotics even if symptoms improve.

➟ Pain and fever relief
Doctor-advised paracetamol or ibuprofen may help.

➟ Fluids and rest
Drink fluids and rest while recovering.

➟ Prevent spread
Wash hands, avoid sharing utensils, and stay home until advised.

➟ There is breathing difficulty, drooling, inability to swallow, severe neck swelling, dehydration, rash, worsening fever, or symptoms not improving with treatment.

𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸

- 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 (𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀): Block your reflex to cough; ideal for dry, non-stop ticklish coughs. Look for Dextromethorphan.

- 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: Thin and loosen mucus in your chest so you can cough it up; best for wet coughs. Look for Guaifenesin or Carbocisteine.

- 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: Shrink swollen blood vessels in your nose to relieve stuffiness. Look for Phenylephrine or Phenylpropanolamine

- 𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀: Stop sneezing, itching, and a runny nose. Look for Chlorpheniramine, Cetirizine OR Loratadine

- 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀/𝗙𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀: Ease headaches, body aches, and fevers. Look for Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen.

𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 & 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:

𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹: Many combination cold medicines contain the same active ingredients (like paracetamol). Always check the box to avoid taking a double dose.

𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: If you have high blood pressure, consult a doctor before using decongestants, as they can elevate blood pressure.

𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿: Consult a healthcare professional or pharmacist if your symptoms worsen, last longer than 7-10 days, or if you develop a high fever.

While others see challenges in our current public health system, these four visionary pirates from the 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐲 saw an opportunity in reshaping the current problem that the country is facing.

Months might have passed, but the impact of their achievement hasn't faded. We are looking back at the remarkable accomplishment of our first-year students from LPU Cavite's College of Allied Medicine Sciences (CAMS), who once secured a spot as one of the National Finalists in the 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐏𝐇 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬: 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞. This nationwide contest challenged the youth to pitch practical and innovative solutions to improve government services.

Out of 433 entries submitted across the country, our freshmen's project, 𝐊𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐓𝐀 𝐊𝐈𝐎𝐒𝐊, are one of the proposals that stood out, receiving a silver medal and a certificate of recognition as National Finalist of the competition. They designed a system to 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 with the guide of their adviser, Jess L. Santias, team members Larriza, Shannen Kate, John Ivan, and Nicolas James, who proved that age and year level are not a barrier to make a world changing innovation.
