Terahertz Spectroscopy and Imaging of Biomedical Phantoms

Funded by the UP Emerging Interdisciplinary Research (EIDR) Program, this project is led by Dr. Alvin Karlo G. Tapia of the Institute of Physics, College of Arts and Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), with project staff Dr. Teri Marie Laude, MD (College of Human Economics) and Dr. Emmanuel Hernandez, DVM (College of Veterinary Medicine). The research assistant is Micaila Francine Jariol, and the project is conducted in collaboration with Dr. Elmer Estacio of the National Institute of Physics, UP Diliman.

The project aims to fabricate biomedical phantoms and characterize them using terahertz (THz) spectroscopy and imaging techniques. Expected outcomes include the establishment of a biomedical physics laboratory and the development of collaborations with research hospitals.

The project runs from February 1, 2026 to January 31, 2028.
