🎓 Equipping UPLB Personnel with Essential Tax Compliance Knowledge 📊💼

🏛️ The UPLB Department of Accounting – College of Economics and Management (CEM), in partnership with the Human Resources Development Office (HRDO), organized the highly informative orientation-seminar, "Tax Smart: A Basic Guide to Individual Income Taxation," on 25 June 2026 at the ICOPED Auditorium.

📚 The seminar provided a comprehensive overview of the essentials of tax compliance. Discussions focused on the processes of registration, filing, and payment. Attendees gained practical, real-world insights tailored to various taxpayer classifications, including purely compensation income earners, self-employed individuals and professionals, mixed-income earners, and job order and service contract workers.

🤝 The event received strong support from key university leaders. Among those who attended were UPLB Vice Chancellor for Administration Rolando T. Bello, HRDO Director Roderick C. Javar, CEM Dean Ma. Angeles O. Catelo, and Department of Accounting Chair Juan Paulino S. Trespalacio Jr., highlighting the institution's commitment to equipping its personnel with vital fiscal knowledge.

👏 We extend our sincere gratitude to our expert resource persons from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)—Joseph Emanuelle Y. Palencia, Ma. Patricia Joy E. Jaron, Maria Paola G. Tavera, Prince Ricky Lenard Laluon, and Charmaine C. Lopez—for sharing their invaluable expertise and helping empower UPLB personnel to become more informed and responsible taxpayers.

✨ Through initiatives like this, UPLB continues to promote financial literacy, professional development, and good governance among its workforce.

The College of Economics and Management (CEM) has officially launched a three-day Training Workshop on the Structured Examination of ASEAN University Network–Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Program Assessment Criteria, marking a significant step in the College's preparations for its upcoming AUN-QA program assessments in March–April 2027.

Led by Dr. Antonio Jesus Quilloy, the workshop brought together faculty members and unit representatives to deepen their understanding of AUN-QA standards, contextualize assessment requirements at the program level, and strengthen a shared culture of continuous quality improvement across CEM.

Organized by the College Quality Assurance Committee and the Knowledge Generation and Management Committee, the training began on June 23 and will continue on June 30 and July 3, 2026, at the CEM Function Hall. Participants will work toward key outputs that will directly support the completion of program-level Self-Assessment Reports (SARs) in preparation for the 2027 assessment.

As CEM advances its pursuit of academic excellence, this collective effort reflects the College's enduring commitment to quality, accountability, and the continuous enhancement of learning outcomes for present and future generations.

🎓 SABLAY CHECK!

You're about to graduate—but are you wearing your sablay correctly? 👀

As you prepare for the 𝐂𝐄𝐌 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 and the 𝟓𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐔𝐏𝐋𝐁 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬, we share this guide on wearing the Sablay with the dignity the occasion deserves.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘆. Draped over the right shoulder with the woven band resting across the chest, the Sablay is more than ceremonial attire—it embodies nationalism and respect for indigenous culture. The term "isablay" refers to draping something precious over one's shoulder as a gesture of value and honor.

Keep it clean, classic, and dignified—let the Sablay take center stage.

See you at the CEM Testimonial Rites!

In recognition of this remarkable accomplishment, Aira was one of those honored during the 2026 Pagkilala: Sa mga Natatanging Alumni na Nagkamit ng Pinakamatataas na Marka sa Licensure Exam, the University of the Philippines' recognition program for alumni who attained the highest marks in their respective licensure examinations, held last 05 June 2026, 5:00 PM at the GT-Toyota Asian Center, UP Diliman, as part of the Buwan ng Unibersidad 2026 celebrations. She was likewise chosen to deliver the message on behalf of the country's topnotchers, representing not only the agricultural profession but also the excellence of UPLB, CEM, and the UP System.

In her address, Aira reminded fellow graduates that "𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒅𝒆𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒂 𝒑𝒊𝒆𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒂𝒑𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒂𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆. She further emphasized that "𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒆 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒔 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒃𝒚 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔."

These words resonate deeply with the values that UPLB seeks to instill in its graduates: excellence anchored in perseverance, leadership guided by integrity, and knowledge dedicated to serving communities and the nation. Aira's achievement stands as a powerful testament that success is built not only on intellect but also on discipline, resilience, and a commitment to making a difference. 🌱

Joining Aira during the recognition program were 𝐔𝐏𝐋𝐁 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐕. 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐨 𝐉𝐫. 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐄𝐌 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐎. 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐨, as the University and College celebrated this historic milestone.

More than setting a record, Aira has raised the bar for future generations of agriculturists and agribusiness professionals. Her achievement brings honor to DAME, CEM, UPLB, and the entire UP community, and serves as an inspiration to all Iskolar ng Bayan who aspire to use their education in the service of the Filipino people.

Congratulations, Aira! Your CEM family proudly celebrates this extraordinary achievement and the example of excellence, purpose, and service that you embody!
