This year’s theme is “Mathematics and Hope.”

Thales said, "Hope is the most universal of all human possessions." More than 2,500 years later, we can also say that mathematics is one of the most universal human possessions. Connecting hope and mathematics creates opportunities for deeper insight and knowledge. Join us in Iloilo City, the first Philippine city recognized as UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, for a flavorful journey into the world of mathematical biology. This workshop brings together researchers, educators, and students to explore how mathematics can model, understand, and innovate in the life sciences --- from disease dynamics and ecological interactions to molecular systems and biotechnology. Dr. Prada is a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology at the Department Comparative Biomedical Sciences, University of Surrey (UoS), United Kingdom. His work focuses on the development of mathematical and statistical models to inform policy decision-making for the control and elimination of infectious diseases, with a particular interest in neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

This special lecture is open to students, faculty members, and researchers. It aims to foster knowledge sharing and instill interest among higher education institutions and the UP constituents.

The International Day of Mathematics project is led by the International Mathematical Union with the support of numerous international and regional organizations from all over the world. It was proclaimed by UNESCO on the 40th session of the General Conference, November 26, 2019. The first celebration was held on March 14, 2020.
