Ambo, one of our beloved community dogs, and he needs your help right now. He was recently rushed to the VTH due to severe limping and recurring, dark red pe**le bleeding. The veterinarian’s findings indicate that he has enlarged prostate, and tested positive for 3 blood parasites, along with a suspected pe**le tumor, and he has been urgently recommended for immediate treatment or chemotherapy.

The total expenses would be approximately around 25,733 pesos.

Our organization’s funds are currently running dangerously low, leaving us unable to cover his life-saving medical procedures on our own. 💔

Bleeding from a male dog’s private area is NOT normal, even if your pet seems active or okay. What looks like a minor issue may actually be linked to urinary infections, prostate diseases, blood disorders, or more serious health conditions that require immediate veterinary care.

Watch out for these warning signs:
⚠️ Painful or frequent urination
⚠️ Constant licking of the ge***al area
⚠️ Weak urine flow or difficulty peeing
⚠️ Loss of appetite or low energy
⚠️ Sudden mood or behavior changes

If this happens:
🚫 Never give human medicine
🩺 Bring your dog to the vet immediately
💤 Keep them calm and avoid too much movement

Dogs cannot explain what they feel, which is why awareness matters. Sometimes, noticing the smallest signs can make the biggest difference in saving their lives. ❤️‍🩹🐾

𝙉𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉𝘼𝙇 𝙍𝙀𝙎𝘾𝙐𝙀 𝘿𝙊𝙂 𝘿𝘼𝙔 🐶

Some dogs spend their whole lives waiting to be chosen. One adoption could change two lives at once. 🐾💕

Today, May 20, is 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙚 𝘿𝙤𝙜 𝘿𝙖𝙮, which shines a light on dogs rescued from abandonment, neglect, abuse, and overcrowded shelters. This advocacy was founded in 2018 by Lisa Wiehebrink, inspired by her rescue dog, Cooper. Since then, the movement has continued to promote compassionate pet ownership and the importance of giving rescue dogs safe and loving homes.

Despite difficult beginnings, many rescue dogs grow into loyal companions and bring joy into their hoo-man’s lives. ❤️‍🩹

But even if you aren't in a position to adopt yet, you can still make a difference by:

Isang buwan na ang nakalipas mula nang walang-awa at walang habas na pinatay ang mga sibilyan at aktibistang biktima sa kamay ng operasyon na isinagawa ng mga militar noong April 19, 2026 sa Barangay Salamanca, Toboso, Negros Occidental o mas kilala sa tawag na “Toboso 19”.

Kabilang sa mga pinaslang na biktima ang isang University Student Council na Iskolar ng Bayan ng University of the Philippines - Diliman na si Alyssa Alano, at ang ating Kapwa E-skolar ng Bayan sa Bukas na Pamantasan na si Maureen Santuyo.

Ang Union for the Protection of Animal Welfare at the Open University o UPAWOU bilang isang animal welfare organization ay binibigyang pansin na ang mga isyung panlipunang kinakaharap ng ating mga kahayopan ay hindi nahihiwalay sa isyung panlipunan na kinakaharap natin bilang mga tao.

Ito ay parte ng isang sistematikong kabulukan na kung saan ang mga taong nananawagan, at lumalaban para sa isang lipunang malaya sa kahirapan, opresyon, at diskriminasyon ay pinatatahimik ng estado, ni-reredtag at tinatawag na terorismo ng walang sapat na batayan, at pinapatay sa marahas na paraan.

Kasama ang iba’t-ibang organisasyon sa University of the Philippines - Open University, ang UPOU University Student Council, at UP Office of the Student Regent. Kami ay nananawagan sa isang malaya, makatarungan, at walang kinikilingan na imbestigasyon upang malaman ang mga totoong nangyari.

Panawagan din namin ang transparency at accountability sa panig ng Armed Forces of the Philippines. Kung walang tinatago ay hindi dapat natatakot na ibunyag ang katotohanan.

Harapin ang pananagutan! Huwag magtago sa likod ng mga pader ng pagbabanta, at kwestyunableng naratibo!

Noong Mayo 8, ginunita ang National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day upang ipaalala sa atin na kasama rin ang ating mga alagang hayop sa paghahanda tuwing may sakuna. 🐶🐱

Hindi lang tao ang dapat handa sa panahon ng bagyo, lindol, baha, sunog, at iba pang kalamidad, pati ang ating mga fur babies ay nangangailangan ng proteksyon at maayos na plano upang manatiling ligtas. ❤️

📌 MGA DAPAT GAWIN BAGO ANG SAKUNA:

✅ Maghanda ng Pet Emergency Kit na may:
• Pagkain at tubig good for 3 days
• Gamot at vaccination records
• Extra leash/collar
• Towel, gloves, at cleaning materials
• Litter supplies o p**p bags
• Paboritong laruan ng alaga 🧸

✅ Magplano nang Maaga
• Alamin kung saan dadalhin ang alaga kapag may evacuation
• Makipag-coordinate sa pamilya o trusted friends na pwedeng tumulong sa pag-aalaga ng iyong pet kapag emergency

✅ Ipa-microchip ang inyong alaga
Ang microchip ay nagsisilbing permanenteng ID ng iyong pet upang mas madaling maibalik siya sa’yo kapag siya ay nawala at may nakahanap sa kanya.

⚠️ 𝙋𝘼𝘼𝙇𝘼𝙇𝘼:
Ang pet microchip ay HINDI GPS tracker. Hindi nito natutunton ang lokasyon ng alaga. Ginagamit lamang ito bilang identification na mababasa ng veterinary clinics, shelters, o city veterinary offices gamit ang microchip scanner.

🐾 Kapag tapos na ang sakuna:
Bigyan ng pahinga, pagkain, at comfort ang inyong mga alaga. Obserbahan kung may sugat, sakit, o stress at agad kumonsulta sa veterinarian kung kinakailangan.

Ngayong unang linggo ng Mayo, we celebrate the 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙚𝙩 𝙒𝙚𝙚𝙠. Sa inisyatibang pinasimulan ng Amercial Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) noong 1981, binibigyang-diin, magpahanggang ngayon na ang tunay na ‘happiness’ ng ating mga fur baby ay nagmumula sa kanilang magandang kalusugan. 🐾

𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩: Kung paanong mapagmahal si fur baby, dsurv din niya ang committed fur parent; handa sa pag-aalaga at pagmamahal.

𝙑𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙚: Tulad natin, they need a healthy lifestyle—nutrisyon, regular check-ups, etc.

𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣: Dahil sila rin ay matatalino at friendly, let them socialize and learn new skills. Mas mararamdaman nila ang kailnga at pagmamahal kung ipaparamdam din natin na sila ay loved and supported.

𝙀𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮: Sila ay buhay din; maaaring magkasakit o tuluyang mamaalam sa atin. Gayunpaman, being ready makes them feel loved—dahil para sa kanila, tayo ang kanilang ‘tahanan’.

Ang linggong ito ay hindi lang basta pagdiriwang; tanda rin ito ng paggalang at pagmamahal natin sa kahayupan, munti man ang kanilang buhay.

While we all love a sunny day, hot weather poses serious health risks for our pets. Unlike us, dogs and cats can’t sweat efficiently to cool down, making them much more vulnerable to heatstroke and dehydration.

At UPAWOU, we want to ensure your companions stay safe when the temperature rises. Here are a few essential tips:

💦 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁: Always provide constant access to fresh, clean water. Multiple water stations are a great idea for busy households.

🐈𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸𝘀 Avoid the midday sun. Stick to early mornings or late evenings when the pavement is cool to the touch to prevent burnt paw pads.

🚗 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝘀: Even with the windows cracked, internal car temperatures can reach fatal levels in minutes.

🪧 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀: Keep an eye out for excessive panting, drooling, or lethargy. If your pet seems disoriented, move them to a cool area and contact a vet immediately.

🐶 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘆: Regular brushing helps heat escape, but avoid shaving certain breeds, as their coats provide natural insulation against the sun.
