UPLB Institute of Animal Science Director Dr. Noel B. Lumbo met with Dr. Wilmer S. Faylon, OIC-Chief of the Research Division, and Ms. Marjorie L. Sepina, OIC-Chief of DA - Quezon Agricultural Research and Experiment Station, of the Department of Agriculture Region IV-A to explore possible areas for collaboration.

The meeting focused on academic, research, and extension initiatives between the two institutions, specifically student internships and sustainable programs on native animals and black soldier fly production and utilization.

IAS looks forward to a productive partnership with DA-Calabarzon in advancing animal science research, supporting capacity-building opportunities, and contributing to the development of local farming communities.

Congratulations to the BS Agricultural Biotechnology (Animal Biotechnology) students who presented their ABT 200 research outputs and ABT 200a Major Practice reports during the 3rd Animal Biotechnology Students’ Conference held on 25 May 2026 at Animal Science Lecture Hall 2. The conference provided a platform for eight student presenters to share their academic work, practical training experiences, and growing engagement in animal biotechnology, in support of advancing animal science for food security and sustainable agriculture.

The UPLB Institute of Animal Science also extends its appreciation to the organizers, faculty members, advisers, panelists, and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the conference.

𝑨 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒍 𝒃𝒊𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚.

The UPLB Institute of Animal Science, in collaboration with Genus PLC and PIC Philippines, will host a hybrid SEMINAR ON GENE-EDITED PIGS on 18 June 2026, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at ASLH 2, IAS, UPLB.

The seminar will feature discussions on the development and characterization of PRRS-resistant pigs, the global regulatory review and approval of this technology, and the regulatory guidelines for gene-edited animals in the Philippines.

The UPLB Institute of Animal Science formally executed a Research Grant Agreement with Cobb Vantress Asia Pacific on 22 May 2026, strengthening collaboration in applied broiler research.

The project is led by Dr. Rommel C. Sulabo of IAS-UPLB, with technical collaboration from Dr. Alvin P. Arucan, Director of Technical Services – Asia Pacific, and Mr. Noel C. Quiñones, Technical Services Manager – Asia Pacific.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing evidence-based poultry production. It also forms part of Cobb’s continuing investments across Asia to generate research-based information that supports its customers, stakeholders, and the broader poultry industry.

The event will take place on Monday (May 25, 2026), 8:00 A.M. at the Animal Science Lecture Hall 2.
