Here are low effort habits that build stronger reading foundations:
1. Master 42 sounds.
Start with sounds like s, a, t, i, p, n so your child can form quick words like sat, tap, pin. Repeating them everyday becomes automatic and permanent.
2. Blend while doing everyday tasks.
Turn chores into reading sessions. Let them say and blend words out loud.
Example: While cooking, say /s/ /a/ /t/ then let your child blend it into "sat."
3. Use visuals and actions
Make it multi-sensory! Pair sounds with pictures, objects, or hand motions to help them remember. This makes reading feel like play, not study.
Watch your child strengthen their reading foundation, they'll thank you later on.
