The Faculty of General Education and Experiential Learning–Center for Teaching and Learning (FGEEL-CTL) successfully conducted its enrollment for School Year 2026–2027 from June 8, 9 and 11, 2026, marking another significant milestone in its commitment to providing quality basic education.

The smooth and efficient implementation of the four-day enrollment process reflected the strong partnership and shared dedication of the CTL community toward educational excellence. The Samahan ng mga G**o at Magulang (SGM) Officers for SY 2025–2026, together with the CTL staff—Ms. Judy Ann B. Rodriguez, Mr. Dennis Pastorfide, and Mr. Rae Mhart Rivero—facilitated the enrollment activities with professionalism and dedication. Their collective efforts ensured an organized, seamless, and parent-friendly enrollment experience.

The enthusiastic participation of parents and guardians, as well as the significant number of enrollees, demonstrated the continued trust and confidence of the community in PNU-CTL as a nurturing learning environment and a center for educational excellence.

The entire enrollment process was supervised by the Associate Dean of FGEEL, Dr. Voltaire M. Villanueva, and the Center Head, Dr. Jeffrey C. Ginez, whose leadership and guidance contributed to the success of the activity.

More than an academic institution, PNU-CTL serves as a dynamic learning laboratory for both basic education learners and pre-service teachers of the Philippine Normal University. As the new school year approaches, PNU-CTL eagerly welcomes its new and returning students and looks forward to another productive year of fostering holistic growth, academic excellence, and meaningful learning experiences for all members of the CTL community.

Sal1gang Kaunlaran: Educators for Innovation and Sustainability

It is the nature of every future-ready educator to embrace creativity and innovation in addressing real-world challenges. They are effective in applying multiple disciplines into hands-on action, and it is one of the many ways we teachers can indeed make an impact. Through scientific knowledge, data literacy, and communication skills, the four groups of TEDPaths I-1 have produced four innovative prototypes that promise to address particular issues or challenges observed in their community scanning and partnerships.

The commencement of the research and prototype presentation

Group 1: Assessment of Water Quality of Rainwater Harvesting and Filtration System for Livelihood Business

For Group 1, they’ve explored the potential of harvesting rainwater as a sustainable solution for small-scale livelihoods by examining its water quality and community acceptance. They found out that while raw rainwater was already clear, the filtration system unexpectedly increased turbidity due to sediment leakage, highlighting a key design flaw. Amidst this, the system successfully improved the water’s pH to a safer level and maintained acceptable total dissolved solids, making it chemically suitable for use, and local business owners showed strong interest in adopting rainwater systems for sustainability. However, practical barriers such as limited space and system maintenance should be further addressed for further implementation.

Group 2: Development and Evaluation of an HFMD Hygiene Storybook for Daycare Learners

Meanwhile, Group 2 addressed the spread of Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) by creating a child-friendly hygiene storybook titled “Si Lito at ang Nawawalang Amoy ng Sampaguita.” They evaluated its effectiveness through a mixed-method approach from the feedback of early childhood educators. The storybook made a difference with its engaging narrative, simple language, and visually appealing design, making hygiene lessons more relatable for young learners. Overall, the project shows how powerful storytelling is as a culturally relevant tool for early childhood health education.

Group 3: Evaluating the Writing Quality, Reading Quality, Durability, and Seed Germination Performance of Recycled Paper-Based Seed Carriers as a Sustainable Alternative to Single-Use Paper Disposal at Philippine Normal University, Manila

Group 3 turned paper waste into a whole new page on an innovative experiment on recycled, seed-infused paper as a sustainable alternative to single-use materials. They created plantable sheets of paper that are still usable in writing, reading, and overall durability by embedding seeds into handmade paper. The researchers found that the prototype showed promising, though moderate, results in seed germination and early plant growth, proving its dual function as both paper and planting medium. They showed how everyday waste can be transformed into eco-friendly, functional products with real environmental impact.

Group 4: Evaluation of an Activated Charcoal-Based Air Purifier with Clay Pot Cooling System on Temperature, Relative Humidity, and Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC)

Finally, Group 4 developed a refreshing solution addressing classroom environmental challenges by developing an innovative air purifier that combines activated charcoal filtration with a clay pot cooling system. Their prototype showed a promising performance in significantly reducing harmful Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs), especially during peak hours, demonstrating its effectiveness in improving air quality. While the prototype slightly made changes in temperature and relative humidity, this could be further improved by enhancing the scale and choice of materials and testing sites and environments. Overall, the project presents a potential, low-cost solution for cleaner classroom air, with room for further refinement in thermal regulation.

Different scopes united in one goal, to come up with an innovative solution to solve various community issues and challenges in accordance with the SDGs. These four projects reflect how future-ready educators can move beyond theory into meaningful, community-centered action. As we step forward, these works stand as a testament to how education can drive sustainable and practical change in our communities.
