From Gayndah to the Gold Coast, Western Australia to Wagga Wagga – Australian Border Force officers are on the ground across every corner of Australia targeting employers who are exploiting migrant workers on training visas.

The four-month operation will see;
🏢 200+ workplaces to be visited
📍 All states & territories covered
🛣️ Both regional and metro locations targeted

Just one month into the operation we are already seeing results; over 100 inspections already completed, and evidence of employers lacking genuine training plans and migrant worker trainees being placed in roles unrelated to their approved training.

All workers in Australia are entitled to fair treatment, regardless of visa status. Sponsors who fail to meet their obligations can expect strong compliance and enforcement action which may result in significant penalties, including fines and imprisonment.

Applying for a Student visa (subclass 500)?

You must meet the Genuine Student (GS) requirement. This means that your financial and economic circumstances can support your study in Australia for the entire duration of your stay.

Your application must include evidence of:
• Your overall financial position
• Income sources
• Financial obligations

These documents help demonstrate that you can support yourself while studying in Australia.

We are aware of a current phone scam impersonating the “Department of Immigration”.

Scammers may contact you by phone claiming they are working on our behalf and ask for your personal information. They may also leave a voicemail asking you to call them back.

Do not follow any instructions by the scammer to press a number on the phone keypad for further information. Hang up the call.

Our staff will always identify themselves before they ask for any information. You can verify that you are speaking with a departmental officer by asking them to confirm your file number or your application lodgement date.

Remember, our staff will never intimidate you or ask for your:
- Credit card information
- Banking details
- Payment over the phone.

Stay scam safe and remember you can help others by reporting scams to Scamwatch here: www.scamwatch.gov.au/report-a-scam

The Department is currently running a strong campaign about submitting COMPLETE applications.

They are focusing on assessing “decision-ready” applications and may refuse applications where all required documents are not provided at the time of lodgement. 👀

A decision-ready application can help avoid unnecessary delays and requests for further information.

A strong application is usually:
✔ organised
✔ consistent
✔ well-documented
✔ supported by clear evidence

When applying for an Australian visa, check your application twice before you hit submit.

An incomplete application can cost you time and money if it leads to your visa being refused.

Follow these tips to help get a quicker outcome:
• Submit all required documents and correct information
• Check that your name is spelt correctly and matches your passport
• Provide English translations for any documents not in English
• Check your ImmiAccount inbox regularly for updates or requests for more information

Submit a complete application so you can get a visa decision sooner.
