RCAM ES Clusters 1 and 7 Guidance Wellness Center participated last May 15, 2026 in the seminar entitled “Compassionate Crisis Response: Psychological First Aid for Catholic School Counselors/Associates” with Ms. Mary Marjiemae A. Lorenzo, RPm, LPT, RGC. at Paco Catholic School

This meaningful learning experience equipped our Guidance Counselors and Associates with essential skills and knowledge in addressing students’ concerns with compassion, care, and understanding. 💙🙏

Today, 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, we celebrate 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘆—a day to recognize the effort and dedication of every 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫. 👷‍♀️

𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘆, also known as 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝘄 𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗮𝘄𝗮, honors Filipino workers and their contributions to our society. It began as a movement 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, proper wages, and better working conditions, reminding us of the importance of valuing and protecting our workers. ✊

As we celebrate this day, we are reminded that workers face different struggles and pressures every day. Their strength is not only measured by what they can do physically, but also by how they carry themselves through these challenges. As individuals who promote 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 and 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, we also play a role in making them feel 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻, 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱. Holy Week invites us to slow down, reflect, and most importantly, to listen more deeply. In education, one meaningful way we innovate is by truly listening to student voice. By listening, we get to understand their needs, experiences, and what helps them learn best.

Students learn best when…

Is it when they feel safe? Heard? Challenged? Supported? Inspired? When they've eaten? (o yung mga ma-hangry diyan) ;) Your answer might seem simple but it could be exactly what a learner needs.

RESEARCH | Depression is a health condition characterized by changes in mood, cognition, and behavior. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the Philippines had one of the highest rates of depression in 2017, affecting 3.3 million Filipinos. WHO projects that by 2030, depression will become the leading contributor to the global burden of disease.

This study developed a depression detection tool through language and behavior in social media. Since language can reveal how a person feels, this research built a tool that looks at online posts, specifically Twitter (now called X), to identify signs of depression more accurately using machine learning methods.

A data set composed of 86,163 tweets categorized according to depression symptoms was used to train the model. Use of words, how people behave on Twitter, and signs of psychological distress were also considered. The first stage classifies a tweet as showing “Depression Symptom” or “No Symptom.” If a symptom is present, it is further classified into any of these six categories in the second stage: “Mind and Sleep,” “Appetite,” “Substance use,” “Suicidal tendencies,” “Pain,” and “Emotion”. The output of the two-stage model resulted in accuracies of 91% for stage 1 and 83% for stage 2.

This tool can be used to complement mental health support provided by clinicians to screen for potential symptoms and can be useful for public health efforts to reach more people who may need help.
