Three Cheers to Brod Glen Aldrix Rosal Anarna, MD Φ2017B for placing TOP 7 in the June 2026 Philippine Board of Dermatology Diplomate Examination!

Brod Aldrix earned his medical degree in 2022 from the UP College of Medicine. He then successfully completed his residency training in December 2025, earning the distinction of “Most Outstanding Resident” last January 2026. He continues to embody the highest standards of patient care, academic rigor, and service to the institution.

Throughout his training, Brod Aldrix actively pursued scholarly endeavors, participating in various research competitions and representing the UP-PGH Department of Dermatology at national and international conferences, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence and lifelong learning.

Three cheers to Brod Eric Sta. Maria Talens, MD, MSc, FPCS, FACS, DMCC Φ1981, on being named the Dr. Alfredo T. Ramirez Memorial Lecturer of the Philippine Society for the Surgery of Trauma (PSST) during its 21st Annual Convention held at Park Inn by Radisson North EDSA on June 10, 2026.

Conferred upon distinguished leaders in trauma surgery, this recognition honors individuals whose expertise, scholarship, and commitment to advancing injury care have made a lasting impact on the profession and the broader medical community. As this year’s Memorial Lecturer, Brod Eric delivered the keynote lecture, “Responding to the Challenges of Injury Control.”

Brod Eric is a distinguished trauma surgeon, epidemiologist, and educator whose work embodies medical innovation and community-centered service. He earned his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology degrees from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in 1985 and 1996, respectively, and completed his Residency Training in General Surgery (1991) and Fellowship Training in Trauma Surgery (1995) at the Philippine General Hospital.

Beyond his clinical expertise, Brod Eric has demonstrated an enduring commitment to service and disaster preparedness. He received the Gawad Chancellor Award for Outstanding Faculty in Extension Service from UP Manila in 2011 and the Knight of the Knife Award for Community/Government Service from the Philippine College of Surgeons in 2017. In 2012, as Czar of the UP Manila Disaster Response Team, he developed the University’s Disaster Response Plan, strengthening institutional preparedness and response capabilities.

Brod Eric has long championed community engagement through Ugnayan ng Pahinungód Manila, serving as its Director from 2000 to 2003 and again from 2006 to 2025. He currently serves as a faculty member in Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine at the London-based Society of Apothecaries and as a consultant at Philippine General Hospital, Manila Doctors Hospital and East Avenue Medical Center.

Three cheers to Brod Jethro Manio Macallan, MD, FPPS, FPCC, FPSPC, IFPSCCI Φ2003, on his appointment as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics of Medical Center Parañaque!

Brod Jethro is a distinguished pediatrician, pediatric cardiologist, educator, and healthcare leader whose work revolves around advancing child health and medical education. He earned his medical degree at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine and completed his residency in Pediatrics, fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology, and Pediatric Interventional Cardiology fellowship at the Philippine General Hospital.

His commitment to teaching and academic leadership is reflected in his roles as Course Director for Pediatric Advanced Life Support under the Philippine Heart Association Council on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, and as Assistant Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Lyceum of the Philippines University - St. Cabrini School of Health Sciences, Inc.

Brod Jethro also serves as Head of the Research Committee of the Department of Pediatrics at Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center. He is also a member of the Philippine Heart Association Council on Hypertension and the University of Perpetual Help System Institutional Ethics Review Board, while remaining active in clinical work at Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center and Pagamutan ng Dasmariñas.

Three cheers to Brod Jose Gabriel Trono Go, MD Φ2014 for successfully completing his fellowship training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of the Philippines–Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) this year.

Brod JG earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the UP College of Medicine in 2019. He subsequently completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at UP-PGH from 2021 to 2023 before pursuing and completing his subspecialty fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism.

Previously, Brod JG was selected as a recipient of the Philippine College of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism (PCEDM) Research Grant in General Endocrinology. His research project, “Development of a Protocol for Post-Operative Diabetes Insipidus in Adult Patients Undergoing Pituitary Surgery in a Tertiary Hospital,” reflects his dedication to advancing evidence-based clinical practice and improving patient outcomes.

Three cheers to Brod Leonard Christopher Tenorio Seña, MD, DPBS Φ2007 SE 2011–2012, for completing his Master in Health Management at St. Joseph's College of Quezon City on May 23, 2026.

Brod Borge is currently a faculty member at the Southern Luzon State University College of Medicine, serving as Deputy Chair of the Department of Anatomy. Furthermore, he is the Chair of the Department of Surgery at Lucena United Doctors Hospital in Lucena City, Quezon. He holds the same position in the Allied Care Experts (ACE) Medical Centre - Sariaya in Sariaya, Quezon.

He graduated from the UP College of Medicine in 2012. He completed his General Surgery residency at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital in 2017, where he also served as Chief Resident. He went on to complete his fellowship in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the same institution in 2019.

Three cheers to Brod Frinz Moey Caunes Rubio, MD, FPSP Φ2015 SE 2019–2020 for his outstanding achievement as a back-to-back champion of the Cardiology Quiz Bowl at the prestigious 56th Philippine Heart Association Annual Convention, held at Shangri-La EDSA on May 29, 2026.

Together with his teammates, Dr. Ed-Robert D.C. Arnad and Dr. Annette Razon-Bayhon, Brod Frinz proudly represented St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City. The team competed against adult cardiology fellows-in-training against 24 institutions nationwide. This prestigious competition brought together leading cardiologists from across the country, highlighting the knowledge and teamwork of emerging specialists.

Brod Frinz earned his Doctor of Medicine degree, cm laude, from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in 2020. He then completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s Medical Center – Quezon City, where he served as Chief Resident of the Department of Medicine. In recognition of his excellence, he was awarded the 2025 Most Outstanding Resident in Internal Medicine by the Philippine College of Physicians. He is currently a Fellow in Adult Cardiology at St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City.

Three cheers to our Brods for being recognized at the 2026 University of the Philippines Medical Alumni Society of America (UPMASA) Awards! Brod Antonio Escolar Alfonso, MD Φ1964 for Lifetime Achievement Award and Brod George Guntur Abanes Pujalte, MD Φ1996B for Excellence in Medical Research.

Brod Dindo is currently serving as Professor and Vice Chairman of Surgery and the Director of Surgical Education at Northwell University Health Systems. He was also formerly a longtime Professor and the Vice Chairman of Surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Brod Dindo has made significant contributions to surgical oncology, endocrinology, and head and neck surgery through decades of clinical excellence, academic leadership, and service. His outstanding career has been recognized through numerous honors which include the 2018 Outstanding Medical Researcher from UPMASA and the 2014 Joseph Cunningham Surgery Mentorship Award from the Brooklyn and Long Island Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.

Brod George is an internationally acclaimed physician-scientist, educator, mentor, and humanitarian. With a body of work exceeding 200 scholarly contributions and nearly 100 peer-reviewed publications. Brod George has made lasting and significant contributions to family medicine, sports medicine, sports psychology, and global health. Now serving as Professor at the Mayo Clinic of College of Medicine and Science and the Vice Chair for Research in Family Medicine, he continues to strengthen research mentorship, support UP medical students and trainees, and build collaborations between institutions in the Philippines and abroad. His achievements are recognized through numerous awards such as the 2020 Outstanding Medical Educator Award from UPMASA, the 2018-2019 Most Outstanding Course Director from the Mayo Clinic School of Continuous Professional Development, and the 2022-2023 Patient Experience Award from Mayo Clinic. Beyond academia, his service through Orthopedic Humanitarian Initiatives reflects his commitment to bringing musculoskeletal care and research to underserved communities.

Three cheers to Philipp Rufino Roque Aldana, MD, FAANS, FAAP Φ1987 for receiving the Humanitarian Award from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) last May 1-4 during the 2026 AANS Annual Scientific Meeting held in San Antonio, Texas.

This award highlights the significant contributions to public service that Brod B**g and his wife, Carmina, have made through the Neurosurgery Outreach Foundation (NOF), which has empowered the neurosurgical capacities of underserved countries such as the Philippines, Mongolia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Jamaica. As co-founders of NOF, they also received the Presidential Award for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas last 2024, and up to this day, hold neurosurgical exchange forums at the University of the Philippines - Philippine General Hospital.

Currently, Brod B**g is the Chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at Nemours Children's Health Jacksonville where he holds the H.E. James Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neurosurgery at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Moreover, he is the Co-director of the Stys Neuroscience Institute. Brod B**g also serves as a Professor of Neurosurgery and Pediatrics in the University of Florida - Jacksonville, alongside being a Professor of Neurosurgery in the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine and Science. He dedicates his work most especially towards stroke, neuro-oncology, spine surgery, and global neurosurgery.

Brod B**g was conferred Diplomate status by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 2016 and by the American Board of Pediatric Neurosurgery in 2007. He completed his fellowship training in Pediatric Neurosurgery at the University of Utah–Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2002, after completing his General Surgery Internship and residency training in Neurological Surgery at the University of Miami–Jackson Memorial Hospital in 1995 and 2001, respectively. Brod B**g earned his Doctor of Medicine degree, magna cm laude, from St. Louis University in Missouri in 1994, graduating with Distinction in Research and receiving the Missouri State Medical Association Award. Before migrating to US in 1990, he was a student of the UP College of Medicine from 1987 to 1990.

Three Cheers to Brod David Marco Marasigan Magpantay, MD, DPBO Φ2015 for being named a 2026 DCERF Fellowship Awardee and the Grand Prize Winner of ARVO’s Got Talent 2026!

Representing the Philippines at the world’s largest ophthalmology research convention, Brod David was selected as a 2026 Developing Country Eye Researcher Travel Fellowship (DCERF) Scholar. The award fully supported his participation in the ARVO Annual Meeting, including travel, accommodations, conference registration, and a one-year ARVO membership. During the meeting, he presented global health research detailing how mandatory baseline funduscopy and socioeconomic barriers delay antiretroviral therapy initiation at a tertiary HIV hub in the Philippines.

Demonstrating excellence in both scientific inquiry and the arts, he also captured the Grand Prize for ARVO’s Got Talent 2026 through his winning entry, “Saccadic Rhythm,” earning complimentary registration for the ARVO 2027 Annual Meeting in San Diego, California.

Brod David graduated from the UP College of Medicine INTARMED program in 2020 and completed his Ophthalmology residency at the UP-PGH Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences – Sentro Oftalmologico Jose Rizal, where he served as Assistant Chief Resident for Academics and Research during his senior year. His research focuses on retina, infodemiology, and clinical trials. He is currently a General Ophthalmologist based in Batangas and a Research Associate at NIH-UP Manila.
