👩🏻🏫 Today, I’d like to share some knowledge from our Permanent Make-up (PMU) industry with you.
Do you know what?
📣 In the field of Permanent Make-up (PMU), machine speed and hand speed play a crucial role in the quality, precision, and safety of the procedure.
😉 If these two factors are not synchronized or not adapted to the applied technique, mistakes such as poor pigment retention, color bleeding, skin damage, or uneven results can occur.
👉 Here are the detailed reasons why these two factors are so important:
⸻
1. Impact on Pigment Retention and Needle Depth
• Machine and hand speed must be balanced to ensure the needle reaches the correct skin layer.
• If the machine runs too fast but the hand moves too slowly, the needle will pe*****te too deeply, leading to:
• Excessive pigment saturation, which can cause scarring or skin damage.
• Pigment spreading beyond the desired areas (blowouts).
• Longer healing times and a higher risk of pigment loss after healing.
• If the machine runs too slowly but the hand moves too quickly, not enough pigment will be implanted, resulting in:
• Poor pigment retention, resulting in pale or uneven color.
• Multiple touch-ups, causing unnecessary skin damage.
⸻
2. Impact on Color Effects and Shading
• For techniques like Ombre, Powder Brows, or Shading Lips, a stable machine speed is essential to create smooth color transitions.
• If hand speed does not match the machine speed, the following issues may occur:
• Uneven, blotchy results if the hand moves too quickly and the needle can’t deposit enough pigment.
• Oversaturated or patchy areas if the hand moves too slowly and the needle punctures the same spot multiple times.
• Proper speed adjustment ensures smooth, natural color transitions without visible needle marks.
⸻
3. Minimizing Skin Damage and Faster Healing
• When hand movement is in harmony with machine speed, the needle pe*****tes the epidermis at the correct depth, which:
• Reduces swelling and pain.
• Minimizes tissue damage and the risk of scarring.
• Shortens healing time and promotes better, long-lasting pigment retention.
• Inconsistent hand speed can result in uneven skin damage, leading to an imbalanced healing process and irregular pigment retention.
⸻
4. Precision in Line Work and Shape
• Especially in techniques like Hairstroke Brows, Eyeliner, or Lip Contour, controlling needle movement is crucial.
• If the hand is too fast or too slow, the lines may become:
• Shaky, broken, or blurry.
• Too deep or too shallow, resulting in uneven strokes.
• To achieve fine, precise lines for eyebrows, sharp eyeliner, or perfect lip contours, hand speed must be stable and synchronized with the machine rhythm.
⸻
5. Impact on Color Durability After Healing
• If the machine runs too fast and the hand is too slow, too much pigment can accumulate, which may fade quickly after healing.
• If the machine runs too slowly and the hand is too fast, the pigment won’t be deposited deeply enough, resulting in pale or patchy results.
• Proper speed coordination ensures long-lasting, stable pigment retention and reduces the need for frequent touch-ups.
⸻
♻️ Machine and hand speed are the two key factors that determine the quality, aesthetics, and durability of a PMU work. To achieve the best results, consider the following:
✔️ Adjust machine speed according to the technique (Shading, Hairstroke, Eyeliner, Lips, SMP, etc.).
✔️ Keep hand movement stable and avoid sudden speed changes to ensure consistent color and line work.
✔️ Practice regularly to develop a good sense of speed and adapt it flexibly to different skin types and techniques.
