Last June 11, the University of the Philippines Manila College of Nursing (UPCN), led by Dean Sheila R. Bonito and her delegation, were warmly welcomed by the Faculty of Nursing at Burapha University in Thailand!

The productive meeting, hosted by Acting Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Saiphon Muangkhum and Associate Professor Dr. Pornchai Julmet, marked an exciting step forward in strengthening international ties in nursing education.

Here are the key highlights of our discussion:

📚 Curriculum & Knowledge Exchange: We benchmarked and exchanged insights on nursing education management, focusing on teaching methodologies, clinical practices, and advanced curriculum development (particularly highlighting Burapha University's Master of Nursing Science program) to ensure our programs meet evolving global healthcare needs.

✈️ Mobility Programs: We explored future pathways for faculty and student exchange programs, allowing our community to gain invaluable cross-cultural and international clinical perspectives.

🔬 Research & Global Events: Both institutions discussed joint research initiatives and the co-organization of international academic events to elevate nursing research and practice on the global stage.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the Faculty of Nursing, Burapha University, for their hospitality. UPCN remains steadfast in its commitment to building strong international networks that empower our faculty and students to lead with excellence in global healthcare! 🌻✨

𝐔𝐒 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫, 𝐋𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐚, 𝐌𝐇𝐀, recently completed his distinguished nine-month collaboration with the University of the Philippines College of Nursing (UPCN), serving as a powerful testament to the value of global academic exchange.

From September 2025 to June 2026, his research focused heavily on analyzing workforce policy gaps, migration push factors, and the retention of nurses across the Philippines. This collaborative effort yielded crucial insights into the complex dynamics affecting our healthcare professionals. The qualitative research project conducted with UPCN Dean Sheila Bonito and A/Prof. Laurence Lloyd Parial during this period can establish a robust foundation for future health workforce policies and continued academic inquiry.

Apart from his scholarly work with UPCN, Vincent has become an honorary member of the UPCN family. We extend our deepest appreciation to Vincent for his unwavering dedication over the past nine months. Furthermore, we thank the US Fulbright Program for making this vital cross-cultural exchange possible, fostering a collaborative environment that will deeply benefit the broader nursing community.

Championing shared expertise and international collaboration ensures the ongoing advancement of evidence-based nursing research and the creation of sustainable, long-term solutions for nurses worldwide.

Last June 4–5, the UP College of Nursing proudly welcomed nurses from across the country with expertise in gerontology and geriatrics to Sotejo Hall for the Philippines' first-ever Training-Workshop on the WHO Integrated Care for Older People (ICOPE).

This training was made possible through a collaboration between two WHO Collaborating Centers: the UP College of Nursing (WHOCC for Leadership in Nursing Development) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (WHOCC for Community Health Services).

The workshop was led by Prof. Angela Leung, Associate Head (Research) and Director of the WHOCC for Community Health Services at Hong Kong PolyU, who shared her expertise in implementing the ICOPE framework across community and healthcare settings.

Congratulations to our pioneering cohort of ICOPE-trained nurses. Through this training, they have strengthened their competencies in assessing the health and functional capacities of older adults using the WHO ICOPE framework and are now better equipped to support the delivery of person-centered care that promotes healthy ageing.
