𝙁𝙀𝘼𝙏𝙐𝙍𝙀 | Strengthening Unity: 2026 Annual Regular General Assembly Reinforces Cooperative Solidarity in Manila

Unity among cooperatives in Manila was once again strengthened as representatives from different organizations gathered for a cooperative union meeting that highlighted collaboration, leadership, and shared progress.

The program formally started after the arrival and registration of participants from various cooperatives across the city. One by one, the attending organizations and their representatives were introduced, creating an atmosphere filled with familiarity and cooperation as members of the union reunited for another meaningful gathering.

The event continued with the welcome remarks delivered by Mr. Donardo Davila, Chairperson of MCUC. During his message, the importance of cooperative unions was emphasized, particularly in helping organizations work together toward common goals. Several chairpersons and regional officials were also introduced, while words of encouragement and support were shared with the participants.

Meanwhile, an inspirational message was delivered by Fr. Anton CT Pascual, Chairperson of UMMC. Stories about the role of cooperatives in helping communities across Manila were shared, along with recognitions of some leading cooperatives in categories such as membership and insurance. More importantly, the need for stronger unity among cooperatives was highlighted, as it was explained that greater opportunities and growth could be achieved when more organizations choose to participate in the union.

Updates from the CDA NCR Extension Office were also presented by Ms. Ana Hora. Discussions regarding compliance requirements for cooperatives were conducted, followed by a short question and answer portion where concerns and clarifications were openly addressed. Through this, participants were given a clearer understanding of their responsibilities and current requirements under the CDA.

In addition, a solidarity message was delivered by Ms. Shiela O. Fernandez, Chief Executive Officer of UMMC. The message focused on maintaining cooperation and strengthening relationships among the member cooperatives within Metro Manila.

The event also featured presentations from cooperative partners such as One Cooperative Bank, One Cooperative Tech, and Koop Value. Their products and services were introduced to the attendees, while possible benefits for both cooperative members and non members were also explained during the presentations.

As the program went on, plaques were awarded to several cooperatives while newly affiliated members of the union were also recognized. A simple raffle added excitement to the gathering before reports were read and approved through a brief discussion among the attendees. Later on, elections for board members and officers were conducted as part of the organization’s continuing activities.

The event ended with a shared meal, closing activities, and a photo opportunity with the board members and officers. Although the program lasted for only a few hours, the spirit of unity and cooperation remained evident among the participants, reflecting the continuing commitment of cooperatives toward collective growth and development.

ADVISORY | PUP shifts to online modality at Main Academic Building (East and West Wings)

Polytechnic University of the Philippines has announced a shift to online modality for students with classes at the Main Academic Building, specifically the East and West Wings, starting May 6, 2026 until further notice. This follows the fire incident that occurred on May 5.

𝙁𝙀𝘼𝙏𝙐𝙍𝙀 | Bigkis ng Bayan: COOP-UNITY, Sandigan ng Tsuper at Magsasaka sa Panahon ng Krisis

Sa gitna ng patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng langis at pangunahing bilihin, muling pinatunayan ng sektor ng kooperatiba ang kapangyarihan ng pagkakaisa sa pamamagitan ng paglulunsad ng programang COOPUNITY: Katuwang ng Tsuper sa Pasada. Sa pagtutulungan ng Koop.Works at Union of Metro Manila Cooperatives (UMMC), isinakatuparan ang isang inisyatibo na hindi lamang tumutugon sa agarang pangangailangan ng mga tsuper, kundi nagbibigay rin ng suporta sa mga lokal na magsasaka.

Nagsimula ang araw sa isang maikling oryentasyon na nagbigay-linaw sa mahalagang papel ng mga union cooperatives sa pag-uugnay ng iba’t ibang kooperatiba upang makalikha ng mas malawak na epekto sa lipunan. Ipinaliwanag din dito ang layunin ng COOP-UNITY bilang tugon sa kasalukuyang hamon ng ekonomiya. Layon nitong maibsan ang pasanin ng mga Public Utility Jeepney drivers, TNVS drivers, at riders na direktang naaapektuhan ng pagtaas ng presyo ng krudo. Kasabay nito, pinalawak din ng programa ang saklaw ng pagtulong sa pamamagitan ng pagkuha ng bigas at gulay mula sa mga kooperatiba, na nagbibigay ng dagdag na kita sa mga magsasaka.

Sa aktwal na repacking ng relief goods, kapansin-pansin ang organisado at masiglang pagtutulungan ng mga boluntaryo. Agad silang nagbahagi ng mga gawain upang masigurong maayos at episyente ang proseso. May mga nakatuon sa pagsukat ng tig-tatatlong kilo ng bigas sa bawat pack, habang ang iba naman ay maingat na pumipili at naghahanda ng mga gulay upang matiyak ang kalidad nito. Mayroon ding grupo na nagsasaayos ng pantay-pantay na bahagi ng bawat relief pack upang masigurong patas ang matatanggap ng bawat benepisyaryo. Sa kabila ng abalang gawain, nanatiling magaan ang kapaligiran, na pinupuno ng tawanan at kwentuhan ng mga kalahok.

Sa pamamagitan ng sama-samang pagsisikap, matagumpay na nakabuo ang grupo ng 150 relief packs na ipamamahagi sa mga tsuper mula sa Marikina, Pasig, Pateros, at Taguig bilang unang batch ng distribusyon noong ika-3 ng Mayo. Para sa mga benepisyaryo, ang simpleng tulong na ito ay nagsisilbing malaking ginhawa sa kanilang pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay.

Ayon sa mga tagapag-organisa, ang COOP-UNITY ay hindi lamang isang programang pangtulong, kundi isang simbolo ng kapayapaan at pakikiisa ng iba’t ibang sektor. Ipinapakita nito na sa panahon ng krisis, ang pagtutulungan ang nagsisilbing sandigan upang makabangon.

Hinihikayat din ng mga boluntaryo, tulad ni Gwenn Alaurin ang kapwa kabataan na patuloy na makilahok sa mga ganitong gawain. Para sa kanya, kahit ang simpleng pagkilos ay may malaking ambag sa kapwa.

Ang COOP-UNITY ay hindi pagtatapos ng isang proyekto, kundi simula ng mas marami pang inisyatibo na naglalayong maghatid ng pag-asa at pagbabago sa komunidad.
