Last June 18, 2026, at 0900H, the PUP community once again united for the 2026 2nd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) to strengthen preparedness, enhance emergency response skills, and promote a culture of safety within the university.

The PUP Red Cross Youth Council (PUP RCYC), in coordination with the PUP Disaster Resilience Institute (DRI) and the PUP Medical Services Department, actively participated in the drill. Through this collaborative effort, students, faculty, and staff were given the opportunity to practice proper earthquake response procedures, evacuation protocols, and basic first aid readiness in simulated emergency situations.

Preparedness is a shared responsibility. By participating in drills like the NSED, we continue to build a safer, more resilient, and more responsive PUP community.

Earthquakes can occur without warning, making preparedness essential for everyone.

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines together with PUP DRI, PUP RCYC and other PUP offices encourages all students, faculty, and personnel to participate in the Second Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on June 18, 2026, at 0900H.

Preparedness is a shared responsibility. Through regular drills and awareness, we can help create a safer and more resilient community.

Volunteers from PUP RCYC participated in the 1st Facilitator Workshop for the Youth Volunteer Orientation Module held last May 30–31, 2026 at the Philippine Red Cross – Manila Chapter. The workshop focused on strengthening facilitation skills and enhancing volunteer development through interactive learning sessions.

The activity equipped participants with greater confidence and competence in guiding future RCY volunteers.

This day honors the unwavering dedication of volunteers and humanitarian workers who continue to serve communities with compassion, courage, and hope in times of crisis and emergency.

As one movement, we remain committed to humanity and to reaching those who need help the most.

PRC JOINS IFRC, ICRC, AND 191 NATIONAL SOCIETIES IN CELEBRATING WORLD RED CROSS AND RED CRESCENT DAY 2026

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) joins the global celebration of World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day on May 8, 2026, marking 79 years of nonstop commitment to helping communities worldwide alongside the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and 191 Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies.

The international observance follows the theme “United in Humanity,” meant to celebrate the volunteers and staff whose support and compassion toward communities shine amidst crises and emergencies around the world.

The day also serves as a call to uphold and protect humanitarian work, ensuring timely support is given to those most in need.

“The Philippine Red Cross volunteers are the backbone of the entire organization. Without their help, it would be nearly impossible to expand our reach and services in the farthest regions of the country. This day is meant to celebrate not only them, but also the millions of Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers worldwide who continue to serve humanity,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon.

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement grew from an idea by Jean Henry Dunant in 1859 after witnessing the suffering brought by the Battle of Solferino in Italy.

Today, the Movement is composed of the ICRC, the IFRC, and 191 National Societies working together as the world’s largest humanitarian network.

“The Philippine Red Cross will always look up to the ICRC, IFRC, and our fellow National Societies, and celebrate their humanitarian achievements across the world. Rest assured, the organization will continue strengthening its services in the country while remaining united with the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in serving those most in need,” PRC Secretary General Dr. Gwendolyn Pang stated.

The PRC commits its adherence to this year’s theme and ensures its application in the various humanitarian services it offers nationwide.

ANNOUNCEMENT | In line with the recent advisory from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, all in-person classes at the Sta. Mesa Campus – Main Academic Building are suspended today due to a fire incident.

The situation is now under control and the fire has been extinguished. However, everyone is strongly advised to evacuate and safely exit the premises as a precaution against possible harmful smoke or air contaminants.

Classes for the College of Law will continue as scheduled.

We encourage all students to remain calm, follow safety protocols, and prioritize their well-being at all times.
