Today, the Church honors the Immaculate Heart of Mary—a heart completely devoted to God, filled with love, humility, compassion, and unwavering trust in His will.

Mary’s heart rejoiced at the Annunciation, pondered the mysteries of Christ in silence, suffered at the foot of the Cross, and remained steadfast in hope even in the darkest moments. Her heart teaches us how to love God wholeheartedly and how to remain faithful amid life’s joys and trials.

In the Benedictine tradition, we are invited to cultivate a listening heart—a heart that seeks God in prayer, welcomes His Word, and responds with generosity. The Immaculate Heart of Mary is the perfect model of such a heart. She listened, believed, and surrendered herself completely to God’s plan.

As we celebrate this feast, let us ask Our Blessed Mother to help us form hearts like hers: hearts that are pure in intention, patient in suffering, generous in service, and always open to God’s grace.

May the Immaculate Heart of Mary lead us ever closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
