Let’s use this month to 𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 one another in the ongoing struggle for rights and recognition.

𝐒𝐔𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐊𝐀𝐒𝐘𝐎𝐍: 𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐏𝐔𝐏 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍

Ang General Education Movement–PUP (GEM-PUP) ay isang kolektibong inisyatiba ng mga mag-aaral, g**o, at mga tagapagtaguyod ng edukasyon na naglalayong protektahan, paunlarin, at ipagtanggol ang General Education (GE) courses bilang mahalagang bahagi ng paghubog ng mga mag-aaral na may kritikal na pag-iisip, kamalayang panlipunan, at malasakit sa bayan.

Sa kasalukuyan, nahaharap sa banta ang GE courses dahil sa panukalang Reframed General Education Curriculum (RGEC) na naglalayong bawasan ang GE units mula 36 units tungo sa 18–21 units. Bagaman ipinapakita itong reporma sa kurikulum, mahalagang suriin ang magiging epekto nito sa kalidad at lawak ng edukasyong natatanggap ng mga mag-aaral.

Ang GE courses ay hindi simpleng mga asignaturang kailangang matapos. Ito ang mga kursong nagtuturo sa atin ng kasaysayan, kultura, wika, lipunan, pilosopiya, at iba pang larangang mahalaga sa paghubog ng mga mamamayang mulat, mapanuri, at may pananagutan sa sambayanan. Kapag lumiit ang espasyong inilaan para sa mga kursong ito, nanganganib ding lumiit ang espasyo para sa mas malalim na pag-unawa sa ating lipunan at bayan.
