UE Manila Biology Prof. Steve Obanan and Biology student Ms. Andrea Jenybel Galos presented their research papers in the recently concluded International Conference on Nature Studies and Innovation for the Environment (ICoNSIE) organized by the Philippine Society for the Study of Nature (PSSN) and the Department of Biology and Environmental Science, University of the Philippines-Cebu. This year’s ICoNSIE brings together researchers, policymakers, educators, and environmental advocates to collaboratively chart a course toward a carbon-neutral future.

Prof. Obanan presented the research "Detection of Microplastic in Ayungin (Leiopotherapon plumbeus) in Laguna de Bay". Ms. Galos, a graduating Biology student, presented the research entitled, "Angiosperm Rapid Assessment and Heavy Metal Analysis of the Riparian Zones of Bgys Bayto and Lucapon, Santa Cruz, Zambales". The first research paper was also authored by Almira Maerie Almira, Rytch Adrianne Cortez, Andrey Dipus, Ruben Charles Estremadura and Jaivi Ann Villafuerte, the second paper was also authored by Krizza Giebrell Linato, John Paul Mallari, and Krissalyn Cai Pagdilao.

Participation in this international conference is a reflection of UE Manila Biology program's commitment to research and collaboration.

Calling all undergraduate researchers!🌿

Do you have a thesis on natural products from indigenous plants or microorganisms with potential health applications? The DOST-PCHRD is now accepting applications for the 2026 Undergraduate Thesis Grant in Natural Products (1st Call).

Qualified undergraduate students may receive up to ₱75,000 in research funding to support thesis projects that explore the potential of Philippine natural resources in developing solutions for human health, under the Tuklas Lunas Drug Discovery and Development Program.

📌 Who can apply?

3rd or 4th year undergraduate students in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Nursing, and Health and Allied Sciences (e.g., Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Medical Technology, Nutrition and Dietetics, and related fields) whose thesis focuses on natural products from terrestrial/marine plants and/or microorganisms indigenous to the Philippines with human health applications.
