UST Breaktime …

18/06/2026

Today, we commemorate the 165th Birth Anniversary of our National Hero, Jose Rizal, one of the most prolific and influential Thomasians who shaped our nation.

In his formative years, Rizal studied at the UST campus in Intramuros from 1877 to 1882. He spent a year in Philosophy and Letters after shifting to the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.

He passed the same Arch of the Centuries, remnant of the old Intramuros campus, that we see today in España.

Let us take the time to reflect on the influence and contributions of our National Hero.

A team of UST College of Nursing students published a study that explored the persistent problem of health inequities in the Philippines and highlighted the Catholic Church’s moral response to unequal health outcomes among vulnerable populations.

BS Nursing students Marie Anne Eloiza Beriña, Floro Acob Jr., Mariah Rhasalla Camba, Cyren V. Catalan, and Maxine Andrea G. Castro conducted the study and they were guided by Inst. Ivan Efreaim Gozum of the UST Institute of Religion.

With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate 80 years of grace—a legacy built by generations of leaders, mentors, and benefactors who paved the way for every Thomasian Nurse to carry the values of compassion, commitment, and competence to the world.

Eighty years of history is a beautiful trust to carry forward. As we mark this milestone, may it challenge our entire nursing community to continue nursing with an even greater and more purposeful heart.
