Three MPC Faculty to Study in Thailand Under CHED's HUSAY Scholarship
Three faculty members from Marikina Polytechnic College will be sent to Thailand for a specialized international graduate training program, after securing unanimous approval from the Board of Trustees. Under the guidance of CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis and through the leadership and inspiring direction of BOT Chair, Commissioner Michelle Aguilar-Ong, MPC continues to fast-track its modernization and academic development.
Endorsed by the College President Dr. Rene M. Colocar, Professors Sally DC. Jason, Annabele S. Jamon, and Thommy Laurence D. Esteron will take part in the scholarship, titled "Strengthening the Future Food Systems: Specialized Graduate Training in Food Innovation, Nutrition, and Bioprocessing," hosted by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).
Granted under the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Higher Education Upskilling and Study for Advancement of Staff and Faculty (HUSAY) Program, this fully funded initiative acts as a direct deployment of the commission's strategic ACHIEVE Agenda 2030 championed by Chairperson Agrupis. As such, this flexible approach allows the courses completed by the three professors to credit directly toward advanced MS and PhD degrees at AIT.
With the project officially greenlit by the BOT and endorsed through Administrative Council Resolution No. 40, s. 2026, the college has already finalized the required Memorandum of Agreement to seal institutional support for the qualified faculty scholars during their study leave from August 2026 to May 2027. Upon their return, the three faculty members are tasked to expand the college's academic offerings and introduce cutting-edge food innovation courses.
On the other hand, Commissioner Ong’s transformative vision on the Board has ensured that MPC's localized initiatives address the agenda's push for Harmonized SDG-Based Research and Innovation.
President Colocar warmly congratulated the three faculty members for this milestone achievement and commended them for helping elevate the college's academic standing through global engagements.
“Through the HUSAY program, CHED is giving colleges the exact tool they need to upgrade their faculty's skills. Sending these professors to a top-tier regional school like AIT does more than just fulfill state education policies on paper. It creates real, hands-on international teamwork that will directly benefit local students once these teachers bring their new knowledge back home,” Pres. Colocar said.
