Three MPC Faculty to Study in Thailand Under CHED's HUSAY Scholarship

Three faculty members from Marikina Polytechnic College will be sent to Thailand for a specialized international graduate training program, after securing unanimous approval from the Board of Trustees. Under the guidance of CHED Chairperson Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis and through the leadership and inspiring direction of BOT Chair, Commissioner Michelle Aguilar-Ong, MPC continues to fast-track its modernization and academic development.

Endorsed by the College President Dr. Rene M. Colocar, Professors Sally DC. Jason, Annabele S. Jamon, and Thommy Laurence D. Esteron will take part in the scholarship, titled "Strengthening the Future Food Systems: Specialized Graduate Training in Food Innovation, Nutrition, and Bioprocessing," hosted by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT).

Granted under the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Higher Education Upskilling and Study for Advancement of Staff and Faculty (HUSAY) Program, this fully funded initiative acts as a direct deployment of the commission's strategic ACHIEVE Agenda 2030 championed by Chairperson Agrupis. As such, this flexible approach allows the courses completed by the three professors to credit directly toward advanced MS and PhD degrees at AIT.

With the project officially greenlit by the BOT and endorsed through Administrative Council Resolution No. 40, s. 2026, the college has already finalized the required Memorandum of Agreement to seal institutional support for the qualified faculty scholars during their study leave from August 2026 to May 2027. Upon their return, the three faculty members are tasked to expand the college's academic offerings and introduce cutting-edge food innovation courses.

On the other hand, Commissioner Ong’s transformative vision on the Board has ensured that MPC's localized initiatives address the agenda's push for Harmonized SDG-Based Research and Innovation.

President Colocar warmly congratulated the three faculty members for this milestone achievement and commended them for helping elevate the college's academic standing through global engagements.

“Through the HUSAY program, CHED is giving colleges the exact tool they need to upgrade their faculty's skills. Sending these professors to a top-tier regional school like AIT does more than just fulfill state education policies on paper. It creates real, hands-on international teamwork that will directly benefit local students once these teachers bring their new knowledge back home,” Pres. Colocar said.

NSTP Unit Partnerships with Philippine Red Cross for "Health Caravan 2026" at MPC

To promote the health and wellness of the Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC) community, the National Service Training Program (NSTP) unit, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, organized a civic mission titled “Health Caravan 2026” on May 26, 2026, at the fifth floor of the Academic Building.

Through the assistance of Alumni Relations Office, the Non-Teaching Employees Association (NTEA), and the United Non-Teaching Employees Association (UNITEA), the health caravan was able to provide free medical consultations and essential medicine packages containing vitamins, antihistamines, and antibiotics to the community members. The proponents also conducted a seminar on mental health and reproductive hygiene.

Mr. Rocky C. Racraquin discussed mental health awareness, debunking social stigmas and misconceptions. Mr. Sean JC M. Minimo spoke on stress management and self-care, while Ms. Rebena Xenna G. Mañalac talked about menstrual hygiene management. Mr. Gilbert D. Herrera, a Chapter Service Representative for the Philippine Red Cross, briefed the participants on institutional programs, such as the Red Cross’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives, committed to achieving sustainable community well-being.

The outreach concluded with a mobile blood donation drive, which yielded 112 blood bags. The collected units will be turned over to regional blood banks to reinforce local hospital supplies for surgeries and emergency operations.

MPC and Thailand’s Sahavith School Forge the Future of TVET Education

Moving beyond local borders, Marikina Polytechnic College strengthened its international presence by welcoming partners from Sahavith Business Administration Technological College who attended the Pasinaya 2026 celebration on May 25, 2026. Backed by the Board of Trustees and aligned with the Commission on Higher Education agenda, President Rene M. Colocar revealed that the ongoing agreements and mutual visits are destined to produce graduates who are both technically skilled and globally responsive. Furthermore, Dr. Colocar noted that the partnership serves as a bridge to enhance educational opportunities for students and faculty through cross-border exchange programs, joint research, and the institutional sharing of best practices.

Through the Institute of Technical Teacher Education’s LIPAD (Learners International Program for Academic Development), interns Ronn Justin Reanzares, Angel Roshel Agapito, Neomie Rinarn Goneo, Maria Lourdes Amansec, Jude Ahira Parpan, Ken Rovic Reyes, and Jennefer Venus under the Bachelor of Technical Vocational and Teacher Education (BTVTED) program flew to Suphanburi, Thailand on February 20, 2026, for an international immersion (see https://sl1nk.com/za1xgvj). This cross-cultural jouney was felt through the lived experiences of the interns themselves. Food Service and Management major Ken Rovic Reyes, who also served as the master of ceremonies for the Pasinaya event, demonstrated MPC's "signature excellence" in a Thai classroom, reflecting that teachers hold a “herculean task” to shape the kind of citizens their students will become.

Armed with a recent AACCUP Level III accreditation, Pres. Colocar emphasized that this is only the beginning of deep collaborative ties, urging, “Let this gathering be the beginning of many shared endeavors and partnership, exchange programs, joint research, and of course best practices that will shape the future of our institution, not only in the Philippines but in your own country, Thailand.”

Dr. Glen R. Mangali, Vice President for Planning, Research, Extension, Linkages, Quality Assurance, Publication & Alumni Relations, expanded on this strategic horizon. “Pasinaya, which signifies a meaningful beginning, represents more than a ceremonial engagement. It is a strategic step toward building stronger international linkages that empower students, faculty, and stakeholders to thrive in a dynamic and global environment,” he said.

Driving home the impact on future generations, Dr. Ma. Arra Santos-Bava, Vice President for Academic Affairs, stated, “We are not just navigating our future education, but we are actively shaping it.”

Sahavith Business Administration Technological College CEO, Dr. Jutamanee Kraikunasai, praised the discipline and creativity of the Filipino interns. “I was deeply impressed by your professionalism, discipline, creativity, and positive attitude,” she said. Dr. Kraikunasai revealed that over 50 Filipino teachers already enjoy long-term careers at Sahavith, emphasizing that “together we have created a meaningful learning experience... we build a bridge between the institutions and our community.”

Dean of Instruction Dr. Medardo B. Bombita described the partnership by stating that “true education happens when cultures meet, laugh together, learn from one another and emerge wiser than before,” while Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Joemel V. Bautista envisioned a seamless educational bridge that transforms enrollment into meaningful global employment. “We envision sending our graduates to Thailand as quality teachers. They will carry with them the Filipino puso (heart), but they will also learn from Thailand's nam-jai—the deep, generous kindness that fills every Thai classroom. In that exchange, both nations grow richer, and both students win,” VP Bautista said in his closing remarks.

The event dubbed “Pasinaya,” brought together academic leaders, international guest speakers, and students to discuss sustainable development, financial literacy, and local community empowerment.

College President Rene M. Colocar formally opened the lecture series, emphasizing the institution's progressive direction. “This international lecture series serves as more than just an academic activity; it acts as a bridge between local communities and global ideas,” Pres. Colocar said, encouraging students to maximize the opportunity to learn from the discussions and apply these insights to their future endeavors.”
