When reading is slow and laborious, the brain is working too hard just to sound out the words. Automatic and accurate decoding ensures more cognitive effort can be put into understanding a text, while reading with expression aids in comprehension by breaking that text into meaningful chunks.
It takes time, patience, and plenty of practice to develop reading fluency.
Teachers and parents, let's team up! From the classroom to the living room, our goal is the same: raising empowered, lifelong readers. Grab a favorite story or book for a quick fluency practice!
