Atty. Gonzales is the Founding Legal Counsel of J. Gonzales Law Office, specializing in litigation and dispute resolution in criminal, civil, and commercial cases, with experience in telecommunications, construction, and energy law.

He previously served as Senior Associate at ACCRALAW under its Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department.
He has appeared before various courts, quasi-judicial bodies, and arbitration tribunals, handling complex disputes involving white-collar crimes, estate cases, government contracts, and infrastructure-related arbitration.

He is also a faculty member at San Beda College Alabang School of Law, where he teaches Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Civil Procedure.

Vice Dean Francesca Lourdes M. Señga earned her Master of Laws degree at San Beda University Graduate School of Law in 2019 and graduated as the class valedictorian when she obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the San Beda University College of Law in 2010. She is the current Vice Dean of the San Beda University, and a professor of both San Beda University College of Law and San Beda College Alabang School of Law. She is an experienced bar reviewer, MCLE lecturer, and the author of Know Your Rules: Special Civil Actions. Aside from teaching, she is also the Managing Partner of Señga Garcia Law Offices.

The Convention applies to the international carriage of persons, baggage, and cargo by aircraft, and modernized the rules previously governed by the Warsaw Convention and Hague Protocol. It also establishes the rules on the liability of air carriers in cases involving delay, injury or death of passengers, and loss or damage to baggage and cargo.

This primer provides a clear, concise, and Bar-aligned discussion of the Convention’s essential provisions, enabling Bar candidates to confidently integrate this topic into their review of Transportation Law and related subjects.

The doctrine of this installment of the Doctrine Series comes from the case of 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗱𝗿𝗼 𝘃. 𝗦𝗽𝘀. 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗱, 𝗚.𝗥. 𝗡𝗼. 𝟮𝟳𝟮𝟯𝟬𝟬 | 𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟳, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, covering Civil Procedure under Remedial law. This case was penned by Justice Samuel H. Gaerlan, the Bar Chair for 2026 himself.

The Court in San Pedro v. Sps. Trinidad clarifies that the phrase "as if the case was originally filed with it" under Rule 40, Section 8 does not convert the RTC's jurisdiction from appellate to original, serving merely as a procedural rule for judicial economy. Because the judgment remains an exercise of appellate jurisdiction, the proper mode of appeal to the CA is a Rule 42 Petition for Review. Moreover, resorting to a Rule 41 Notice of Appeal is an improper mode that warrants dismissal.
